Australia's wine industry has long been celebrated for its quality and diversity, with South Australian wineries often leading the charge.
In a recent triumph for the region, another variant from Taylors Wines has been heralded as the best white wine in the country, shining on the international stage at a prestigious award show in Germany.
The $26 Taylors Wines Jaraman Sauvignon Blanc 2023 was awarded the Best of Show Australia White at the Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Awards in Dusseldorf.
But the accolades didn't stop there.
Taylors Wines also took home the title of Best Producer from Australia and secured multiple gold medals for several of its wines, including the $22 2023 Riesling and the $19 One Giant Leap Shiraz 2021.
These awards are a clear indication of the winery's commitment to quality across its range.
South Australia's wineries dominated the event, claiming an impressive 40 of Australia’s 41 grand gold and gold medals.
The other Australian winner was Kilikanoon Wines, which received the Best of Show Australia Red for its $96 Oracle Shiraz, further cementing South Australia's reputation as a powerhouse in the wine industry.
Mitchell Taylor, the Managing Director and Winemaker for Taylors Wines, expressed his elation at the international recognition.
'International wine shows provide a valuable benchmarking opportunity for our wines against producers worldwide,' he said.
'Our winemakers strive to craft exceptional wines for people to enjoy with their friends and loved ones, and it’s amazing to see wines from across our portfolio recognised on the global stage.'
'I’m so proud of the team and confident the future is bright for Australian wineries.'
The award-winning winemakers has also bagged several awards in the previous years from competitions such as the 20th Annual VINUS International Wines and Spirits Competition and the Las Vegas Global Wine Awards.
Australia ranks as the world's fifth-largest exporter of wine, and the industry has faced its share of challenges, particularly with the tariffs introduced by China in 2021.
'On one end, our winemakers continue to be celebrated for their skill and outstanding wines, which is something to celebrate,' Mr Taylor said.
'On the other, we continue to feel the pressures of ongoing trade tariffs in China on top of some of the most challenging international market conditions in over a decade.'
'We’re feeling very optimistic about the potential of China reopening to our wines, particularly as we know through these awards we can demonstrate that Australian wines are some of the best in the world.'
The Chinese Ambassador Xiao Qian's announcement that the review of the tariffs was progressing well, coupled with the Australian trade minister's statement that China would complete its review of the years-long wine tariffs by the end of March, brought hope to the industry.
The Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Awards is a significant event where forty-five nations present their finest wines.
More than 250 wine experts from around the world gather to judge and crown the winners.
With a total of 639 awards, Italy emerged victorious, followed by France (296), Spain (535), and Portugal (352).
