Solar Panels - electricity produced by my panels is only worth 1/3 of big suppliers like AGL, Origin etc - why?

In the "save the planet" way and also to assist our economics, we decided to buy solar panels, to not only produce green energy, but also to save money in our retirement.
Last year, our electricity provider offered us 22 cents per Kwh, and all was well - our electricity bill was eliminated.
This year, without any correspondence, out of the blue, our electricity provider cut our refund by 11 cents, half of what they paid us in the first year, and they are charging us 34 cents per Kwh of their coal fired power, so we still end up with an electricity bill.
So I wonder, can you actually win against big companies? And why is my green energy, that cost us some quite some retirement savings, less valuable than their coal fired energy?
Not happy
