Simple Security to save on Marketplace scams
Lots of people advertise unwanted stuff for sale of Facebook Marketplace and it's a great feeling when we get that "Is it still available" enqiry.
Before you answer, click on the name of the poster and check their profile out.
If they are genuine, you should see that that live locally and have a 'normal' looking profile.
If they are hiding their details or seem to be based in another country, then there are a few simple questions / replies to use.
1. Answer, "Yes, still available in Australia Only. Cash only on pick-up"
2. If they say 'my son/daughter/fiancé will pick up for me but they dont have the cash, send me your details" then the reply is
"Send the funds to them and let them bring the cash with them"
I guarantee you, if the buyer is trying to scam you, there will be no further correspondence. If genuine, ask to see their profile or where they are located.
DO NOT under any circumstances provide your full address until they confirm they are on the way then make sure you are there waiting for them.
This has worked for me up to now anyway.
Good luck with your sales.
