Sick of switching on bright lights during late-night toilet trips? This $16 motion light fixes that quietly

Overhead lights might be bright, but they don’t exactly scream ‘cosy’.

As more Aussies ditch the dreaded ‘big light’ in favour of ambient glows, one clever $16 find has interior designers—and thousands of shoppers—obsessed.

And it might just help you cut your power bill too.

The Sensor Motion Down Lights from Kmart, priced at just $16 for a three-pack, have become the latest must-have gadget for renters, homeowners, and lighting lovers alike.

Battery-powered and motion-activated in the dark, the warm white lights were designed to illuminate hallways, walkways, or any space where overhead lighting falls flat.

They can be installed using a wall screw or the built-in self-adhesive backing—making them an easy upgrade without damaging your walls.

Interior designer and mum-of-four Ashlee Jay recently posted a video showing the lights installed in her walk-in wardrobe and called them a ‘must-have’ for any home.

‘I love the convenience of the product and the price point. You get an instant luxe feeling that is affordable,’ she shared.

Ashlee also pointed out a major improvement: ‘I love that they have upgraded the sticky pad on the back to a 3M so the attachment is a lot stronger and easier.’

The lights stay on for around 30 seconds, and while Ashlee admitted she would prefer a rechargeable version, she added that the batteries had lasted impressively long.

‘My advice would be to ensure that they are placed in a spot where they can see you easily for the sensor aspect,’ she said.

The video racked up over 500,000 views, with social media users flooding the comments with praise—and plans to buy.

‘These are so good for around the home, it saves electricity,’ one viewer commented.

Another added, ‘I have been using both battery and solar powered sensor motion lights around my home for years. They are brilliant and definitely save on electricity bills.’

A third shared, ‘Omg would love this for my bathroom so when I go to the toilet in the middle of the night I don't have to turn the light on.’

‘I need these in my life,’ someone else said.

Others jokingly suggested the lights could double as ghost detectors, with one user writing, ‘Do they detect spirits?’

Another replied: ‘My scaredy cat brain instantly went to me being in bed home alone and the lights go on by itself!’

If you’re looking for more simple ways to cut down on power costs without compromising comfort, you’re not alone.
