Shoppers reveal the BIZARRE REASONS why they shop at Kmart at 1 am

Stores that are open 24 hours are convenient for people who work odd hours or those who are looking to shop when there aren't many people around...

But, have you ever wondered why some people go out of their way in the middle of the night just to shop at these stores?

To answer this question, TikTok user Daniel Du, who posts under the username @notbadenuf, asked shoppers why they prefer shopping at 1 am, releasing a two-part video series about their bizarre reasons.

The videos, which collectively have been viewed more than 2 million times, show Daniel walking around Kmart to ask the customers for their reasons for shopping in the middle of the night.

Daniel asked: "What made you come to Kmart at one in the morning?"

One man answered: "I gotta buy a microwave because mine just blew up."

Apparently, the man was in urgent need of a microwave because he was living off frozen meals because his wife has gone on holiday, confessing that he doesn't know how to cook.

Another respondent said: "I am sort of in-between places at the moment and I don’t have any clean clothes and have been working stupid hours."

"So here we are at ... what time is it? 1.20 am... 24-hour Kmart!"

Well, buying new clothes sounds more convenient than hand washing some, right? (but not budget-friendly, for sure)

Meanwhile, one girl admitted that it "sounds weird" that her reason for going to Kmart at 1 am is to buy some furniture.

In the second video, Dan stumbled upon three young women with whom he asked the question…

One of them said: "Our friend just got out of lockdown, she had Covid and we were bored so we came here."

"Nothing else to do at 1 am to be honest!"

Well, in my humble opinion, I think catching up via phone call or gossiping the night away sounds a bit more fun than shopping, but to each their own. *wink*

Another young boy also responded to Dan's question, revealing that he was looking to buy some clothes for his school athletics carnival.

While all of the reasons given so far seem to be light-hearted and nothing serious, two men gave the most bizarre answer, admitting that they were shopping for tents and offering no explanations.

Meanwhile, another man revealed that he sneaked out so he could purchase some fishing equipment in hopes that his wife wouldn't find out.

He said: "Sunday, I go camping and I’m crazy with the fishing stuff, mate."

"My wife, if she knew what I was buying she’d say ‘Are you crazy?’ The house is full of stuff for fishing!"

The videos were well-received by TikTok users, who were exchanging lighthearted banters with each other in the comments section.

One jokingly wrote: "Nothing else to do? Sleeping is an option."

"A truth universally acknowledged is that buying things for your hobby is often more fun than the hobby itself," another quipped, referring to the man who was sneaking out to buy fishing gear.

A third questioned: "Why is this so entertaining to watch?"

"I go because there aren't many people around, no kids running, crying, screaming," one person wrote, revealing that shopping at night allows him to avoid "chaos and also not bumping into randoms."

Another chimed in: "You don’t go to Kmart with an expectation of what to buy. You go to Kmart and let it decide what you need."

I have never been to the shops outside of the normal, traditional opening hours. Does this make me boring? I have a life and spending untold hours wandering around looking at stuff I neither want or need seems rather futile to me.

The only time I have ever been at the shops at 1am was in the '70's when my .local Woolies was trying all night trading at Christmas time. I was on my way home from work and dropped in to get my groceries because I had to be back at work at 7am. It was a one off and Woolies didn't extend those hours the next year. Boy is that eons ago.:sneaky:

Hi Ricci;
I agree 100%.
Also who knows how many weirdos are out that time of the day.
The only shop open at night in my small country town is an IGA.
They close at 7pm.
