Shoppers in fury as Woolworths pulls out Aussie favourite: ‘Please bring them back’

Finding gluten-free options that are both tasty and affordable can be a challenge.

That’s why Woolworths has become the centre of a consumer uproar after discontinuing a staple product that has long been a customer favourite.

The item in question? The 680g loaf of gluten-free white bread—a godsend product for those with coeliac disease or gluten sensitivities.

Woolworths has been meeting the needs of those with gluten intolerance with its Woolworths Free From Gluten White Loaf 680g, which provided not only value for money but also a quality that had won over a loyal following.

The removal of this product from the shelves has sparked a heated debate and a wave of disappointment across social media platforms, with customers voicing their dissatisfaction and calling for the product's return.

One customer expressed frustration, saying, 'We want the large loaves back! As a coeliac family that shops at Woolies, this is becoming a deal breaker.'

This sentiment was echoed by many others, with another adding, 'Please bring the large 680g loaf back.’

‘It’s the only loaf my daughter and I like. It truly was the best gluten-free bread around, and it’s so frustrating that you no longer stock it. PLEASE BRING IT BACK.'

'Bring back the big loaf! As a Coeliac, my grocery bill is always exorbitantly higher than the average gluten-eating person for less volume,' one customer lamented.

‘YES! I don’t understand why the large white loaf has been taken away! You cannot claim this wasn’t popular as it was ALWAYS sold out!’ another wrote.

‘When you are so limited in breads, and so many of them taste terrible to have the only go one taken away just isn’t right! Please bring it back!’ a third said.

Despite the backlash, a Woolworths spokesperson has confirmed the discontinuation.

'We recently reformulated a number of products in our bakery range and currently offer a range of gluten-free bread under our “free from gluten” range, including the White Bread Loaf ($6.25), Seeded Bread Loaf ($6.25), and Wholemeal Bread Loaf ($6.25),’ the spokesperson said.

‘We appreciate the customer feedback and will take this into consideration in the future.’

However, this product isn’t only causing outrage from shoppers.

Shoppers also face a shortage of home-brand soda water and lemonade, with about 20 Woolworths-brand soft drinks also impacted.

the bulk of g/f breads are like dough. Dont take away the ones that actually are close to bread and can be eaten as bread instead of toast. This one is not my concern as I prefer tiptop one which is rarely there.

Yes..I always buy this bread and am pretty cheesed off that Woollies has decided to remove it.
ANOTHER poor Woollies decision.
If they keep going at this rate, they’ll have even more of their customers …even their dyed in the wool faithfuls…going to the opposition.
I certainly will have no qualms in going back to Coles, IGA or ALDI

What was the price of the 680g Gluten Free loaves?

New loaves have replaced these & the price is $6.25 but what is the weight?

Is this a double whammy for people wanting the original GF loaves? Less weight at a greater price for the replacement loaves.

I am disappointed that this item has been pulled as my family, including my 5 grandchildren are all gluten intolerant. Gluten free bread is expensive but Wollies product was the one of the best in comparison
