Shopper's epic rant stuns customers - See what they wrote on a sauce bottle!

Ah, the humble sauce. A true culinary companion, lifting a mere meal to new heights of flavour and satisfaction. Imagine the disappointment, then, when our beloved condiments are nowhere to be found on store shelves.
Aussies can be very particular about their sauces - not just the type, but the particular brand. Indeed, it seems that for one Coles shopper, the loss of their beloved sauce was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
The irate customer took the challenge to get their favourite condiment back on the shelves to a whole new level.
The shopper, who'd been trying unsuccessfully to get their hands on Beerenberg's peppercorn sauce for two years, left a note on a Coles shelf in Mundaring, east of Perth, addressed to whoever oversaw restocking items.
‘Will the idiot that does the ordering FINALLY get in the Beerenberg peppercorn sauce!!!’ The note said.
‘It’s their best product. This must be the fifth time over two years that I’ve (previously) politely made this request,’ the author added.
According to some reports, it seems that Coles has discontinued carrying the item nationwide - we could find no trace of it on the Coles website - so, sadly, it seems unlikely that the customer’s wish will be granted. That said, we here at the SDC admire the persistence of running a two-year campaign to try and get their favourite sauce back - now that’s dedication!
A photo of the handwritten note, perched in front of the brand’s cream parmesan Caesar sauce, circulated on social media.
People who responded to the post suggested both practical and impractical solutions to the customer’s problem.
‘It’s super easy to order directly from Beerenberg, it took me about two minutes to find the listing on their website,’ said one.
Beerenberg sells their peppercorn sauce for $6. However, there are flat-rate shipping costs to consider. For Metro locations, the cost of shipping is $9.95. All other locations come in at $12.95.
Someone else was keen on seeing how the shopper’s complaints might escalate in the future.
‘Please do not order the sauce – I want to see the next level to this’, the person said.
Another person shared that there was ‘no need to get angry’ over the discontinued sauce.
However, others could see why this seemed to be the hill the author wanted to die on.
‘It was actually the best though,’ shared one.
Another agreed: ‘[It was] Good sauce.’
Did you know that product discontinuation can impact consumers’ loyalty to a business? According to consumer research, people were more likely to select an alternative product from a different brand, rather than select an alternative within the same brand family.
Among the emotional responses, anger and sadness were the most common responses mentioned. While that might sound a little over the top, people often associate a part of their identity with particular products.
That said, if you’re really hankering for some peppercorn sauce, but can’t find anything that’s up to scratch in stores, you can always make it yourself!
You only need four ingredients:
Members, do you have any particular brand or product loyalties? Is there anything you buy in your weekly shop that you’d really miss if it was discontinued? Let us know in the comments!

You only need four ingredients:
- 35g butter
- 35g plain flour
- 200 ml milk
- 100 ml chicken stock - or ½ chicken stock cube with 100ml water
- 1 tbsp brandy
- 15g (4 tsp) black peppercorns (vary this according to how powerful you want your sauce to be)
- Salt
- Crack the black peppercorns in a pestle and mortar or if you don’t have one, place them in a plastic bag, before wrapping a towel around it, and hit them a few times with a rolling pin. Make sure the peppercorns are cracked but do not over-grind.
- Melt the butter on low heat in a small pan.
- Gradually add the flour once the butter is fully melted. Mix well until you have a thick, smooth paste.
- Add the brandy and mix well.
- Gradually add the milk, chicken stock, and black peppercorns before seasoning with salt.
- Let the mixture simmer until the sauce has been reduced to your preference.
Key Takeaways
- An irate Coles customer used an unconventional method to ask for the return of Beerenberg’s peppercorn sauce to the supermarket’s condiment aisle.
- The author of the note argued that it was their ‘best product’ and that they had previously requested the return of the product multiple times over a two-year period.
- Online searches suggest Coles has discontinued the product, making it unlikely their wish will be granted.
- The sauce can be purchased direct from Beerenberg but is not stocked by Coles.
