December is just around the corner, and in Australia, that means it's the perfect time to don apparel meant to be worn swaying with the summer breeze. Does anyone fancy fulfilling our dream of drinking bubbly on a yacht in summer?

Now, choosing an outfit–in this case, a dress–for summer can be a bit challenging (and pricey)!

Depending on your preferences, a summer dress can set you back around $50. But what if we told you Kmart has one for you for just $35?

Yes, you read that right! Shoppers online are going bananas over Kmart’s Short Sleeve Square Neck Midi Dress.

The outfit comes in two designs: floral print and green gingham — and it’s become such a hit with customers that it’s apparently become hard to find in stores.

The dress features a square cut neck area perfect for flaunting shoulders, short puffed sleeves with elastic cuffs, gathered waist detailing, and midi length.

Midi dresses are a style of dress with lengths ranging from down to just below the knee to the lower calf. Any lower than the calf and you’d have a maxi dress!

Kmart’s buyer for womenswear Jamie Chugg said the ‘easy “throw on and go”’ dress fit for any occasion has been flying off the shelves since its green gingham design debuted this month.

‘With an on-trend gingham design and soft shirring through the waist, this dress ticks all the boxes in comfort and style in this season’s must-have colour, green.’ she said.

‘This dress is a staple for your wardrobe this summer,’

Well, if the reviews are anything to go by, the dress seems to be worth its price tag!

One reviewer said: ‘I receive so many compliments when wearing this dress… it’s perfect for early spring and cooler summer evenings.’

‘Comfy fit, thicker fabric, lovely print, lots of movement and stretch! Haven't felt this pretty in a dress in a loooong time.’ another said.

Others though left some pointers for those who wished to buy the dress – take note!

‘Love this dress but the sizing is definitely generous. Could easily go down a size or even two in it. I'm 5 feet/153cm (tall), this is more maxi length for me.’ one reviewer noted.

Another added: ‘Oversized. I sized it down for a standard fit.’

There are also concerns the fabric might feel too heavy for some.

‘Might be a little hot for summer as I prefer more flowy dresses that aren't as clingy. But (it’s a) great colour.’ one shared.

Now, while you’re planning your next Kmart trip for this amazing summer dress, here are some tips on wearing midi dresses.

First, choose a dress length that’s just around mid-calf as it gives the look of a long dress without all the extra fabric.

Second, if possible, choose midi dresses with lighter fabrics.

As far as I'm concerned there are several flaws with this dress. At 5ft tall this would not be a midi dress on me, also I have short arms so the short sleeves would be three quarter length for me. The last thing I need is a shirred waist - I do not need to look like a sack of spuds tied in the middle!! Apart from those little flaws the dress looks fine!!

Agree with the Shirring on the waist and I also have short arms so the short sleeves would end below my elbows. I do not have a problem with height being 5ft 8inches tall with very long legs but that would make the length of the dress just below my knees, my legs while being very long are quite thick on the calves so a knee or midi length on any dress, just accentuates that fact. So apart from hating the colour green in any form of clothing, this is a definite NO for me, will not even bother looking at it, not that my closest Kmart will have it in stock anyway so this whole post is pretty useless, just a typing excercise really!

I can tell you this dress would look stunning on a tall slim lady
On a short lady with the length and sleeve length it could make her look frumpy

The shirred waist also has the potential of making you look bigger around the waist

I prefer Sleeveless dresses in summer.

A style which will work on most women regardless of shape or size are straight cut knee length dresses.

I always find dresses on line at rockmans or Millers for around $20 on special in beautiful soft stretchy fabric
