Shocking health alert: Clinic's unsafe practices put clients at risk for viral infections

Concerning developments affecting the beauty sector, clients of a facility have been issued serious health warnings.

Authorities urge those who underwent certain treatments to seek medical advice and testing for potential health risks.

The situation has raised broader concerns about safety standards in the industry.

The South Eastern Sydney Local Health District Public Health Unit (SESLHD PHU) has urged individuals who have undergone invasive procedures at the clinic to seek immediate medical advice and testing for blood-borne viruses, including hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV.

The alarm was raised following an inspection on 27 February, revealing that the clinic failed to comply with skin penetration legislation.

Procedures such as microdermabrasion, PDO thread lifts, infusions, and injections were identified as having breached the necessary safety standards, potentially exposing clients to harmful pathogens.

The situation was exacerbated by reports of staff at Ketthip Clinic impersonating qualified professionals and administering non-sterile injections of substances that could be toxic.

This revelation has led to the Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC) imposing a prohibition order on the clinic, effectively banning it from providing health services.

The SESLHD PHU, in collaboration with the HCCC, is actively working to assess the extent of the risk to clients and is striving to communicate directly with those affected.

Dr Vicky Sheppeard, director of SESLHD PHU, emphasised the importance of ensuring that any practitioner performing cosmetic injections or procedures is a registered health provider.

She advised the public to verify the registration status of practitioners on the AHPRA website to avoid falling victim to unregistered and potentially unsafe operators.

For those who have visited Ketthip Clinic and are concerned about the care they received, the HCCC has provided a contact email ([email protected]) and encourages individuals to seek more information on their website.

This incident is not an isolated case. A similar health alert was issued in October of the previous year for clients of Fresh Cosmetic Clinic, also in Sydney, where invasive procedures were carried out without strict adherence to infection control, posing a risk of spreading blood-borne viruses.

Dr Sheppeard has highlighted the insidious nature of blood-borne viruses, which can remain asymptomatic for years, making it crucial for anyone undergoing such procedures to get tested.

Fortunately, there are effective treatments available for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV, but early detection is key to managing these conditions successfully.

The news is a stark reminder of the risks associated with cosmetic procedures, mainly when performed by unqualified individuals or in settings that do not meet health and safety regulations.

It underscores the importance of due diligence when selecting a clinic for beauty treatments and the need for ongoing vigilance in the industry to protect public health.

We at the Seniors Discount Club urge our readers to prioritise safety and always verify the credentials of any health service provider.

If you or someone you know has been to Ketthip Clinic or any other clinic where you have concerns about the procedures' safety, please do not hesitate to seek medical advice and testing.

Your health and well-being are paramount, and prompt action could prevent serious health consequences.

In older news, health authorities have warned clients of a cosmetic clinic to get tested for HIV and hepatitis due to alleged safety breaches.

The facility is accused of using expired medication, falsified credentials, and failing infection control measures, raising concerns about potential exposure to blood-borne viruses. You can read more about it here.
