She thought she was getting a fancy fruit plate, but what showed up at her door left her shocked

We’ve never tried going on one before, but (we assume) when you go on a luxury cruise you can at least expect to travel in style, right? The hefty price guarantees a fancy lifestyle, from luxurious rooms to services offered, and of course, the delicious food.

And while many of us dream of going on an extravagant holiday, one cruise-goer’s experience has us feeling a bit hesitant.

We’ve all had those scenarios where the picture on a menu and what shows up at the table look nothing alike.

However, this particular diner could never have expected her room service order from a cruise ship to come back so drastically different to what she was expecting.

The woman thought she was ordering a complimentary platter of multiple slices of watermelon, oranges, rockmelon, and pineapple, as well as grapes and strawberries from room service.

‘I just embarked on a cruise for my birthday and ordered a fruit plate to be sent to my room as a lil snacky snack. The pic for ordering is so misleading,’ the traveller wrote in a post she shared on Facebook.

When the staff finally knocked on her door to deliver her food, the woman was shocked at what she received instead.

In a separate photo she uploaded, the traveller showed that she received a small plate with a single slice each of pineapple, watermelon, rockmelon, and honeydew. Nothing else was on the plate.

The guest didn’t take things too seriously though, as she said she found the fruit salad ‘fail’ hilarious.

The good thing is that she didn’t have to pay for the ‘sad’ snack as the cruise offered free room service at specific times of the day.

However, dozens of social media users slammed the kitchen staff for sending the tiny fruit plate and encouraged the traveller to complain.

‘They’re missing, like, three fruits! I hope you didn’t pay,’ one replied.

Another responded: ‘I would call them back and say I’d like it to look like the picture you guys advertised with, thanks.’

Some thought it was hilarious, while others pointed out that the fruit slices might have been arranged to look like a sailboat.

‘Is there a chance you’re just looking at it wrong and it’s supposed to represent a boat sailing off into the sunset? Lol,’ one offered.

One social media user blamed inflation for the sad snack and said it was ‘getting really wild’ out there.

‘Talk about portion control, sheesh,’ another added.

Someone mused that maybe the person who brought the traveller her food ‘ate the little snacky snack’ whilst on the way to her room. ‘Sorry, girl,’ they added.

‘Please tell me you’re joking?!’ Someone exclaimed while one shared: ‘This is so bad, it’s comical.’

In another food-related mishap, a hotel guest ordered a ‘romantic’ seasonal fruit. The meal consisted of two apples, two oranges, as well as bananas, a board with a bunch of grapes, and a couple of large bottles of soda water.

She said it cost her AU $21.70.

But instead of the ‘romantic’ meal she was promised, the guest instead received a bowl with two apples, one orange, one banana, and two smaller bottles of fizzy water:

Much like the other traveller, however, the hotel guest only saw the funny side of the misleading meal and shared the ‘sad snack’ online to amuse other social media users.

This theme of ‘sad’ dishes doesn’t stop with travellers on cruise ships or guests in hotels. One wedding guest had a very disappointing meal when they discovered that the vegan meal option provided to wedding guests looked a bit…lack lustre.

The guest uploaded the photo on social media and revealed the unappealing handful of rocket leaves, with three melon slices on the side and topped with what seems to be a balsamic dressing.

While other social media users questioned the couple’s catering choices, others seemed to put the blame on the chef and the venue. You can read more about this story here.
