See what this McDonald's did with a mop that has the internet outraged—Tradies involved!

At the Seniors Discount Club, we often reminisce about the good old days when things seemed simpler and, perhaps, a bit cleaner. But in today's fast-paced world, even our pit stops for a quick bite can leave us feeling more than a little unsettled. Case in point: a McDonald's restaurant in Booval, Queensland, has found itself at the center of a hygiene scandal—not once, but twice in less than a month.

The latest incident, which has left customers and internet users alike shaking their heads in disbelief, involved a tradie standing on a food prep area in his work boots. This questionable act of food safety—or lack thereof—was captured by a customer who was understandably disgusted by the sight. The image quickly made its way around social media, with many Aussies expressing their disapproval and concern.

This incident comes hot on the heels of a previous debacle at the same McDonald's location, where a manager was caught drying a mop head under a heat lamp designed for keeping food warm. The image of the 'McMop' went viral, prompting McDonald's Australia to declare the incident isolated and assure the public that staff had undergone re-training on hygiene, sanitisation, and food safety procedures.

However, the tradie's boots on the counter have reignited concerns about the fast-food giant's commitment to cleanliness. In response to the uproar, McDonald's expressed extreme disappointment and took swift action by removing the individual contractor responsible from their restaurants. Additionally, they've emphasized that retraining for restaurants and contractors is a top priority to prevent such incidents from recurring.

But it seems that the Booval restaurant isn't the only McDonald's location struggling to keep up with cleanliness standards. Earlier in May, a Maccas in Cheltenham, Melbourne, faced criticism after customers encountered a scene of discarded rubbish and food scraps. Footage of the filthy conditions spread online, prompting the chain to work with restaurant staff to address the issue.

Another Melbourne McDonald's made headlines last year for a similar reason, with customers finding themselves dining amidst squashed food, spilled drinks, and rubbish scattered across the floor and tables.

These incidents raise important questions about the standards we expect from the places we eat, regardless of whether it's a quick-service restaurant or a five-star dining experience. For our community members, many of whom grew up in an era where cleanliness was next to godliness, such lapses in hygiene can be particularly jarring.

We encourage our readers to always report any concerns about food safety and hygiene to the appropriate authorities. It's also worth remembering that as consumers, we have the power to demand better by choosing where we spend our money.

no excuse. Shouldn't even need training. Where is common sense? Dead and buried I guess.
I've watched staff clean tables and they do a spray on each one but it's the same cloth used on ever y tsble- no rinsing, no changing it. but transferring everything that was in the first table to the next, picking up Moreland taking combines gunk to next table..... You can see swirls where damp cloth has made contact and still visible when dry. The whole table has not been touched. Who is do the training of these people anyway. No doubt someone also without common sense.

And children and babies sitting in the trolley where you have to put your food. Even worse, dirty nappies being left in the trolley at the trolley bays!
Not just children & babies - but those pampered pooches in trolleys. But I’d best not bring up the subject of dogs in trolleys again because there are many that don’t think there is a cleanliness & health issue to this. Think again, though.

I think the area were the kids sit is designed for that reason. If not, why the seatbelt and warnings over loudspeakers to make sure your kids are not standing. but sitting.
I for one don't put food items up there and always sanitize the seat bit.

I would be more concerned about his safety, slipping on a greasy surface. He should have had a ladder, just goes to show the food safety and work health safety standards of this company.

Even though we have a McDonalds just down the road I have not been there for at least 10 years and now I think it maybe another 10 years before I grace there again
So totally agree. Good for a proper coffee when on the road, but their food is 90% additives, (even flies don`t touch it in the heat of summer (Mackay) and it still looked as if it was bought that day) and stopped at Childers, and could smell Mcdonalds from where I parked up by the Peanut van.
