Secret behind cleaning kitchen cupboards revealed by a professional cleaner

Cleaning the kitchen cupboard sometimes feel like a never-ending battle. No matter how hard you scrub and how much product you go through, you might still be left with tell-tale streaks and residue.

But did you know there is a way to easily remove all traces of grease and grime?

Professional cleaner Gabby from Kings Cleaning Co shared her cleaning trick to help create streak-free kitchen cupboards. The best part? You don’t even need to invest in expensive cleaning products!

So the secret? Exfoliating! Just like our skin, kitchen cupboard doors can benefit from exfoliation too. According to Gabby, this ensures no product residue build-up can cause streaks. Her suggestion? Use a Magic Eraser to give your cupboards a deep clean.

'This is why you have to exfoliate your kitchen cupboards once a month at least. Product residue build-up, it is because of all those multi-purpose sprays,' Gabby said in a video.

Gabby then got the Magic Eraser, wet it and rubbed it over a section of the door to see if she had successfully removed all the product residue. No bubbles appeared after, which hinted at the residue being gone.

Tip
Remember, always do a patch test on a small area first, as Magic Erasers could be too abrasive on some cupboard surfaces.

The idea of exfoliating kitchen cupboards with Magic Erasers got a mixed response from people who viewed the clip.

Some seemed intimidated by the amount of work, with one saying: ‘I don’t exfoliate my face that often let alone the kitchen cupboards.’

If the Magic Eraser is a bit too risky for you, there is an easier way to keep your kitchen cupboard doors clean. A cloth and a few drops of warm soapy water (made using dishwashing detergent) should do the trick.

You can even make your spray by popping a few drops of dish soap in a plastic spray bottle and filling it with warm water. Once you’ve cleaned the cupboard doors, dry and polish it with a microfibre cloth.

Tips and Tricks for Maintaining Kitchen Cleanliness

Keeping your kitchen clean is about more than just aesthetics. It's about creating a hygienic, safe environment where you can prepare food and spend time with your family. It might seem daunting, but it doesn't have to be! With these simple tips and tricks from cleaning pros, maintaining the cleanliness of your kitchen will be a breeze.

First, establish a routine for each day, week, and month. Daily tasks should include wiping down countertops and the stove after use, washing dirty dishes, and sweeping the floor. Weekly tasks could include mopping the floor, cleaning the refrigerator, and the newly introduced cupboard exfoliation. This routine can be personalised according to your kitchen use.

A general tip for everyone is to use bicarb soda and vinegar. These household staples have natural cleaning properties and are safe to use around food. A paste of these two ingredients can effectively clean stubborn stains or burnt food on your kitchen surfaces.

After your cupboards, think about your appliances. Grease and dust often accumulate on the exterior of kitchen appliances, causing them to lose lustre over time. To prevent this, gently wipe them down with a damp microfiber cloth at least once weekly. Remember the handles! These areas are touched the most and house a lot of bacteria.

In addition to these great tips, remember that prevention is better than cure. Try utilising a splatter screen when frying or sautéing food, placing a mat under your pet’s food and water bowls, and covering food before reheating it in the microwave. These small acts can save a lot of cleaning in the long run.

I use very few cleaning products as I invested in Norwex Silver infused cloths that last a lifetime. A scrub cloth for shower and sink, a wet/dusting cloth and a glass/mirror cloth which is the best. The silver creates an antibacterial action as I clean. Just add water! I keep each cloth in each of my three bathrooms. They wash easily on a short cycle with other microfiber cloths. I have had them for years.
I have cream cleanser (very cheap from Aldi) for heavier stains, toilet bowl cleaner (Aldi) and Disinfectant for soaking the toilet brush.
