SDC Tries: Kmart’s Viral OXX Beauty Collection – Affordable Glam for Every Budget
- Replies 0
Kmart has launched a new OXX Beauty Collection that’s getting plenty of attention online (we even wrote about it here) — and for good reason. Every item costs under $14, making it one of the most budget-friendly beauty ranges around.
From lipsticks to skincare, this collection promises everyday glamour without hurting the hip pocket.
For those who enjoy a little luxury without overspending, this collection is designed to tick both boxes: affordable and accessible.
We were lucky enough to try the range and wanted to share our thoughts with you all.
Peel-Off Lip Stains in Red: Comes with a classic soft lip gloss applicator, which I personally found tricky to use (especially when applying a bold colour). I definitely recommend pairing with the lip liner for a cleaner result and gloss afterwards, as my lips felt a bit dry, despite actually being very soft post-application. Just a different texture to get used to. This was my first-ever experience with a lip stain, so I don’t have a comparison to provide, but I will say it was a bit of an odd experience! Trust the process, but don’t wait until you’re about to run out the door to apply this.
Soft Matte Lipstick: I got to try the Darling Diva and Spin Me (my favourite) colours. While I’m not much of a lipstick wearer these days, many years back, it was a daily occurrence, and I was known to occasionally drop fairly big bucks on the name brands. I found the application very smooth, and the coverage is definitely full (a lot of pigment), but what I most liked was how moisturising it felt (almost like I had applied lip balm instead). You should expect some transfer when you take a sip of your coffee, but it didn’t drastically take away from the colour remaining on the lips. For $4, I think these are pretty fantastic.
Brow Sculpt: A larger applicator brush than most brow products. Expect to have some visible white gel when you first apply, but it dries clear and provides a light hold. In everyday wear and against the Sydney wind, it passed. Against a gym workout and also me simply forgetting and rubbing my eyebrows – sadly, defeated. I’d buy it again in a pinch, but, as I have very thick eyebrows, this one wasn’t a perfect fit for me.
Ash’s Experience
Soft Matte Lipstick: I quite liked the smooth application and the neutral tone (Teddy Bear). It was definitely full coverage. As can be expected, though, it didn’t last that long. For the price point, I would be happy with this.
Bronzing Stick: This was a new format for me, as I typically use a bronzing powder. I quite liked the colour (Caramel), with the note that I am quite fair. I did, however, notice that instead of blending when I rubbed it in, it more or less all got pushed around. I will give it a go again, though, as I liked the creamy consistency.
Maddie’s Experience
I was very excited to try both of these products!
Bronzer Stick: I usually use a bronzer stick that I get from Mecca Cosmetica, so I already knew I really like using a stick to apply my bronzer. I just find it so much easier to use and blend onto my skin. I genuinely found this bronzer just as nice as my Mecca on, and I can assure you the price difference is dramatic. Kmart’s bronzing stick is priced at just $6. One thing I was concerned about was my reaction to the product (I have very sensitive skin), but I had absolutely no issues. I will continue to use this product in my makeup routine, and I will buy it in the future!
Highlighter Stick: Okay, I must admit this is the product I was most excited about. I’ve never owned a highlighter, but I’ve always wanted to get one. I’ve just never made the effort to go into the store and find the right highlighter for me, but Kmart saved the day, of course! I found a YouTube tutorial on how to apply highlighter for the best results, and I loved it! Similar to the bronzing stick, the application was very easy and smooth, but the highlighter really does add a lovely, subtle glow to your skin. I really liked it and I would highly recommend it. I know I cannot compare it to any other highlighter product, but I absolutely would buy the product again once I’ve run out of this one!
Lip Tint Peptide Treatment: Ask anyone in the Seniors Discount Club office, and they will tell you I ALWAYS have a lip balm or lip gloss on hand. I love applying a good lip balm or gloss to my lips multiple times a day because I love hydrated lips with a little gloss! I got to try the ‘Berry’ coloured gloss (officially called Lip Tint Peptide Treatment), and honestly, I was surprised at how much colour the gloss had. I am used to lip gloss only adding a subtle colour to my lips, but this one was very red! I was honestly quite impressed with the quality of the gloss, the colour, how long my lips stayed hydrated for, and how long it stayed on for. My one negative was that I just do not think the berry colour is for me, saying that, I would still buy another gloss just in a more subtle colour!
Final Thoughts
Kmart’s OXX Beauty Collection is proof that you don’t need to spend a fortune to feel good. While some products may work better than others, the range offers a fun and affordable way to explore new looks at any age.
We also need to quickly shout out this Makeup Bag ($14). It took us over a week of fighting to decide who would take it home! It’s incredibly soft, a great size and a very cute print.
For those on a budget, especially, it’s a great opportunity to try trending products without committing to expensive brands.
Please note: We received these products in exchange for an honest review. We did not receive financial compensation for this review nor from any purchases you make.
