He had intended to reach out to the queen, hoping for a royal handshake, but instead, he accidentally hit the accelerator.

Sensationalist reporters making a massive headline out of basically nothing. Our precious Australian Queen Mary of Denmark is a pretty tough girl.
Those awful reporters totally over reported the regrettable incident. The offending machine, a disabled mobility scooter had enabled a disabled gentleman the opportunity to see HIS Queen, and I scoff at remarks by people who have said it shouldn't have been able to get close too Queen Mary - HUMBUG I say. I use a mobility scooter, I look fine, I can barely walk and I can't stand for any time unsupported. that poor gentleman had probably waited for a long time to catch a quick glimpse or maybe even as he stated maybe even shake her hand.
After the incident, that poor man was devastated, for the rest of his life, even though it was an awful accident will be known as the man who crashed his mobility scooter into Queen Mary. While his true friends will support him, there are many more berate him, for many years, probably calling him names and insulting him, IT WAS A SAD UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT, will anybody think of the poor man, I think not especially the sensationalist reporters, it is my belief that this poor gentleman will never have any support. He is beside himself for what happened and he will only remember the incident as one of the saddest days in his life. Please give this guy a break, he didn't do it on purpose.
I have done it myself, waiting to board a train, I leant forward to hear what the was saying, and I accidently caused the scooter to jump forward by pushing the forward switch. The driver stepped back. I regret that incident when I apologised, the driver said "it happens."
