School Quadrangle

School quadrangles were the heartbeat of the playground—the spot for handball games, marbles, skipping ropes, and plenty of scraped knees. The bell would send everyone rushing to line up, but until then, it was laughter and chaos in equal measure.

Do you remember trading lunches, playing chasey, or huddling in groups to share the latest playground gossip? What was your go-to game when the quadrangle came alive at recess and lunch?

In winter when it snowed in England, we would compact the snow and make a 30ft ice slide. I remember falling over and ending up with a bloody nose, with a trail of blood droplets across the schoolyard to the toilets to wash my face. Ouch!

Food fights and punchups.

It was a rough and tumble boys' high school.
