Ours were even more ancient than these. Ours were slanted, with a lift up lid. A hole in the right hand side for the ink well. Grooved slots to house your fountain pens. The seat was part of the desk & could be lifted to provide easier access. Kids who were left handed were forced to learn to write with their right hand. Why, I have no idea. Some desks were single and others were built for two students.School Desk in the 60s
I remember the old wooden desk that had the underneath storage for books and pencils
The engravings on top of the next and chewing gum stuck underneath the desk.
And those uncomfortable wooden chairs.
Such a contrast to the desk n chairs in schools today
