Savvy Kmart shopper uncovers checkout loophole that leads to massive savings

In retail shopping, every customer dreams of stumbling upon a hidden discount or a pricing loophole that could lead to significant savings.

One such dream came true for a Kmart shopper who scored a hefty discount on a popular toy thanks to a simple store error.

The story begins with a vigilant mum who noticed something with a basketball she picked up for her daughter.

The shopper shared her experience in a video, revealing how she purchased the toy at a reduced price.

In the video, she showed at least eight $25 Minecraft basketballs placed on a display for regular $9 basketballs.

The mum said the worker had 'no choice' but to sell the more expensive basketballs to her at the reduced price when she pointed out the discrepancy.

However, it’s understood that Kmart does not have an official policy that provides an automatic discount if an item is placed in the wrong section.

The savvy shopper was keen to share her experience and the receipt showing her discounted purchase, hoping to inspire others to keep an eye out for similar opportunities.

'The lady had no choice but to give it to me at that price. It’s their fault,' she said in the video.

'I even showed the lady the section, and she couldn’t deny it,' she added in the comments section.

'And was like, I have to put it through cause it was genuinely not my fault.'

The incident sparked a lively discussion among social media users, with some questioning the validity of the shopper's experience.

'They’ve never done that for me. They’ve always said, sorry someone must have put them in the wrong section,' one user shared.

While another added: 'It’s different if it’s just one versus all of the stock.'

The mum agreed that the situation was unique, as it involved more than just one item being placed in an incorrect section.

'One hundred per cent, you are correct,' she responded.

'If there are a few items, then that’s a mislabelling and at that price if that makes sense.'

Of course, any savvy shopper knows they can’t rely on staff mistakes to score a bargain.

The good news is there’s another savvy shopping strategy shoppers can utilise: price matching.

Many Australian retailers, including giants like Woolworths and Coles, offer price-matching guarantees.

This means if you find a lower price on an identical item at a competing store, they will match the lower price. To take advantage of this, always carry flyers or have access to online price listings on your smartphone when you shop.

Before heading to the checkout, it's worth checking if the item you're purchasing is available for less elsewhere. If it is, simply show the proof to the cashier, and they'll adjust the price accordingly.

This tactic saves you money and time, as it eliminates the need to visit multiple stores to get the best deal.

So all I have to do is put something valued at say $25 into a bin that has a sign saying $10 and just point it out to the staff member. Not how the store policy works, just a one off mistake by the staff member. The code of conduct on scanning in ALL Wesfarmers retail outlets is: if a scanned product scans incorrectly, you get that item for free, the remainder at the actual ticketed price. The barcode would not have matched the dump bin ticket so, the item didn't scan incorrectly unless the ticket on the bin said it was Minecraft basketballs.

Are we going to have to see articles about people’s every day shopping experiences?.Why is this vaguely interesting to every other shopper?

I think that KMart worker made a mistake. Otherwise all a person would need to do would be to pick up two or three dearer items, place them with the cheaper ones, and then go back with one and get a discount.
That would.be.going on all the time if this were the case

That should be filed under "Things that didn't happen, but I'll film it anyway to be a TikTok hero."🙄

Are they trying to encourage people to try to rip off stores on here?🤔
