Amid swirling rumours and public scrutiny, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has finally addressed the whispers of potential eviction from Royal Lodge, the residence she shares with her ex-husband, Prince Andrew.

The spectre of eviction has loomed over the pair following King Charles's decision to cut the Yorks' security team, a move interpreted as a sign of the monarch's intent to distance his brother from the royal spotlight.



The Royal Lodge, nestled in the verdant expanse of Windsor Great Park, is not just any property—it's a grand mansion steeped in royal history.

Once the cherished home of the Queen Mother, it has been the residence of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson since 2003, under a 75-year lease from the Crown Estate.

The estate, with its own chapel where the Yorks' daughter, Princess Beatrice, was wed, has been a symbol of their continued connection to the royal family despite their divorce.


However, the upkeep of such a grand residence does not come cheap. With an annual maintenance cost of £500,000 ($973,000 AUD), the mansion has reportedly fallen into disrepair, with crumbling brickwork and peeling paint marring its once pristine facade.

The financial strain has been exacerbated by Prince Andrew's loss of his civil list entitlement, resulting from stepping back from his royal duties.

The situation reached a critical point when it was revealed that the Duke had neglected the necessary upkeep, prompting King Charles to consider evicting the Yorks from their home.



Earlier this year, Sarah Ferguson stepped in with funds for urgent repairs, granting them a temporary reprieve.

Yet, the recent dismissal of the ten-man security team has reignited speculation about their future at Royal Lodge.

In an interview with ¡HOLA! TV, the Duchess of York was asked about the ongoing rumours of Prince Andrew's eviction.

Her initial response was, ‘Don't always believe what you read.’

But upon further questioning, she admitted to a lack of insight into the discussions about the lodge's status.

'I don't know. I take every day as it comes,' she said.



Despite the turmoil, Prince Andrew is reportedly set to join his brother and the rest of the royal family for their annual summer retreat at Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands.

This trip is a welcome change for the Duke, who has been largely confined to the Royal Lodge since the previous Christmas.

‘Andrew has hardly left Royal Lodge since Christmas, so he's very much looking forward to getting away with the rest of the family at Balmoral,’ a source said.

As for Sarah Ferguson, the prospect of leaving Royal Lodge does not necessarily mean facing homelessness.

At 64, the Duchess is confirmed to own at least one property—a multimillion-dollar 'Mews House' in the upscale Belgravia district of London.
