Safety concerns prompt major recalls from BioCeuticals, Volkswagen, and Mazda
Consumers are being warned about the potential health and safety hazards concerning three recalled products—a supplement and two different cars.
For the first recall: If you are taking BioCeuticals Zinc Drops as part of your daily health regimen, you might want to check the batch number on your bottle.
FIT-BioCeuticals, a leading Australian healthcare company, has issued a recall for two batches of this popular dietary supplement due to a manufacturing issue that could affect the dosage you're receiving.
The BioCeuticals Zinc Drops 50mL, which have been sold across Australia, are being recalled due to a separation issue between the zinc and the liquid in the product. This separation results in an inconsistent dose of zinc, even when users follow the instructions on the label.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), Australia's regulatory authority for therapeutic goods, has warned about the potential health risks associated with this inconsistency.
'Taking a lower dose may not provide the intended product benefits,' the TGA cautioned. 'Taking a higher amount of zinc in a single dose or over a short period of time can cause zinc toxicity.'
Zinc toxicity, while rare, can lead to a range of unpleasant symptoms, including nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, and headaches.
The affected batches are 004766 and 004807. If you have a bottle from either of these batches, you're advised to stop using the product immediately and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Similarly, Volkswagen Australia announced a recall of 70 units of its Amarok produced in 2023.
The recall notice stated: ‘Due to a manufacturing defect, the front drive shaft may become damaged and break. If this occurs, it could lead to a sudden loss of motive power.’
‘A sudden loss of motive power whilst driving could increase the risk of accident, causing injury or death to the vehicle occupants and/or other road users,’ the notice continued.
The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) list of the affected vehicles was posted along with the notice.
Owners of affected Volkswagen vehicles can schedule a free inspection and repair at their preferred Volkswagen dealership.

Mazda also issued a voluntary recall of all plug-in hybrid versions of their 2021-model-year CX-60 crossover.
The company said, ‘Due to a programming issue, the fail-safe driving mode, which helps reduce the effects of failure in the vehicle, may activate unintentionally, resulting in a loss of motive power.’
‘A loss of motive power while driving at high speed could increase the risk of a crash. This could potentially result in injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users,’ the recall warned.
Mazda is notifying owners of the 766 affected vehicles to visit their preferred dealer for a free software update.
A full VIN list was also provided in the notice. More details about this recall are available here.
