Safety concerns led to the urgent recall of a gas stove hose and an Old El Paso taco kit. Are you at risk?

Camping trips are a beloved Australian pastime, offering a chance to reconnect with nature and enjoy the great outdoors. However, a recent product recall is causing concern among seasoned campers and casual outdoor enthusiasts alike.

A replacement camping gas stove hose, sold by popular hardware store Bunnings, has been urgently recalled due to a potentially dangerous defect that could lead to an explosion and serious injury.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has warned about the Gasmate 1000mm hose, with model number GM40419.

The Schrader valve end of the hose, which connects the gas bottle to the camping stove, may leak when fitted to high-pressure camping stoves.

‘There is a risk of serious injury or death if the leaking gas ignites, which may cause a fire and/or explosion,’ the recall notice read.

The ACCC has urged anyone who has purchased this hose to immediately stop using it and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The hose in question is marked AGA 7309 2Q/23 and has no sticker or colour disc on the hose or fitting. It was sold last October 2 to October 11, 2023.

Next thing we will see signs such as "excessive consumption of this product may cause obesity" attached to foods such as pasta, cheese, white bread and meat pies.

More specifically, milk allergies in infants is only 2% and such allergies are grown out of by the time the child reaches 3 to 5 years of age. No parent in their right mind would feed a taco to an infant, so I feel that this warning is akin to a weather report stating "flash flooding expected tomorrow for the areas of X, Y and Z" when the rain experienced would be lucky to wet a footpath. Overkill bordering on the ridiculous.
