The heart of Australian rock 'n' roll is beating strong once again as Jimmy Barnes is set to make a triumphant return on stage after a serious health scare that had fans holding their breath.
Less than two months following a major heart operation, the Cold Chisel frontman has announced his 'highly anticipated return to touring', which has sent waves of relief and excitement through the music community.
Barnes, 67, had to undergo open heart surgery in December after a bacterial infection spread to a heart valve.
The infection then led to Staphylococcus aureus Bacteraemia (SAB), a serious condition that required immediate treatment.
Further complications arose when an abscess developed at an old operation site due to the staph infection, necessitating surgical intervention.
The infection continued to progress, which then caused endocarditis—a life-threatening condition that could have been fatal without urgent treatment.
This affected his aortic valve, requiring urgent cardiac surgery to replace it.
The news of Barnes' health scare left fans worried about the fate of their favourite musician.
Member @Da Freddo said: 'Hang in there Jimbo, we are all rooting for you. You will be back on stage in no time.'
While member @petambrady added: 'I love you dearly. You kept me alive, so many times throughout the years. Please get well again ASAP.'
Meanwhile, Barnes' wife Jane kept fans updated on his progress, sharing a touching photo of Barnes smiling in his hospital bed.
'Good progress today in ICU. Some massive tubes have come out, and first physio visit. Clearing lungs and deep breathing, we know he’s good at that,' she wrote.
'Our family thanks each and everyone for your well wishes; every single one counts, so please keep them coming.'
Now, Barnes is ready to make his much-anticipated return!
In a statement, he said, 'Every day I’m getting stronger. Every day I’m pushing myself a little bit further.'
'I’m excited about getting back on stage, in front of the band and playing for you all.'
Barnes will make his comeback on Sunday, March 31, on the penultimate night of Bluesfest Byron Bay, which runs from March 28 to April 1.
'What better way is there to kick it off than the legendary Bluesfest Byron Bay with a really special celebration of Flesh and Wood,' Barnes added.
'I really want to thank everyone for their support and good wishes while I was ill. The family were passing on your messages of care, and it really lifted my spirits.'
