Revisit Cricket History! Shane Warne's Farewell Test Pitch is Back in Action

Any die-hard cricket fans out there will agree that Australia has a rich, long-held history with the sport, which just gets more and more exciting every day. Well, Australian cricket is set to return to a pitch not seen since the farewell Test for Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and Justin Langer in 2007.
The third and final match against South Africa on this traditional Sydney pitch, which had seen a dusty few years, will no doubt bring with it plenty of nostalgia.
SCG’s Pitch 3 hasn’t seen a Test match since three of Australia's greats last played together. The plan at the SCG is to roll out a ‘traditional’ pitch, with a few returns possibly on the cards.
Captain Pat Cummins revealed that he was ‘set’ on the final team, with Ashton Agar up on the list of probabilities for the country’s final match against South Africa – this will be his first Test since 2017.
‘We’re set on our 11, we’re just going to wait for the toss,’ Captain Cummins said.
However, the team may not be finalised until Wednesday, while fans of the game are eager to find out who will join Cummins and Nathan Lyon in the attack.
With left-arm fast bowler, Mitchell Starc, injured and out, Lance Morris is touted as a potential replacement. Lance is among the candidates to be included in the third and final Test at the SCG.
However, Captain Cummins indicated that nothing is set in stone yet. ‘We’ll see; I don’t think it’s the WACA-type pace-bowling friendly wicket out there,’ shared the captain.
He continued: ‘Yesterday we had a pretty good look at the wicket. We just wanted to have another look today 24 hours on. It hasn’t really changed; they have taken a bit more grass off it. It looks a bit more like an SCG wicket of 15-20 years ago.’
SCG curator Adam Lewis echoed this statement and shared that the surface would suit the spinners.
‘We’re hoping for a traditional SCG pitch,’ he said.
‘When we were doing our investigation, we found out that Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, and Justin Langer had their final Test on pitch three. So, in our planning, we had that in the back of our mind,’ said Lewis.
He added: ‘It’s thin on grass, a bit patchy and probably not the best-looking pitch that we’ve seen, but we’re looking forward to it and we’ve done the best we can. Hopefully, it’s going to be a really good Test.’
The curator shared that they tried bringing grass in on pitch five, but revealed that it ‘couldn’t get there in time’. Additionally, he admitted that knowing Australia’s Greats played on pitch three, their decision just ‘felt right’.
