Ki Ryu-Tatsu is a home cook, but he is also a massive fan of fast food. And recently, he shared his recipe for making a Macca's cheeseburger at home, which he said took him years to get 'perfect'.

If you're also looking to make this recipe, here are the ingredients you will need:
  • 1 Regular Burger Bun
  • 60g Aussie Beef Mince
  • Pinch of Salt
  • Pinch of Pepper
  • 1 Slice of Cheddar cheese
  • ½ Tbsp. Onions, finely diced
  • 1 Dill Pickle Chip
  • 1 Tbsp. Heinz Tomato Ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp. Heinz Yellow Mustard

And here are the steps to follow:

The first step is to make the beef patty. On a flat surface, spread out your 100% Australian beef mince and sprinkle with a little salt and pepper. Then, shape it into a circle and put it in the freezer for an hour.

Move on to preparing the vegetables. Start by dicing the onions and slicing the dill pickle chips. Then set them aside.

Once the patty has frozen enough, heat your pan to 240°C. Take the patty out of the freezer, then cook it for about four and a half minutes or until it is fully done.

And while the patties are cooking, put the burger bun in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat to lightly toast. Once the buns are a light golden colour and the texture feels toasted, take them out of the frying pan and set them aside.

The home cook also mentioned that if you want to closely mimic the texture of the wrapped burgers in Macca's, microwave your burger for 10 to 15 seconds to get that 'steamed bun' effect.

'This is called "Q-ing'" it was a term McDonald's used for helping the flavours to meld via mechanical means; i.e. heat lamp in the old days or a microwave in 2022,' he said.

After these steps, all that's left is to assemble the cheeseburger.

Start by putting the burger patty and the bottom bun together. On the top half of the bun, put tomato ketchup, then yellow mustard, then onions, sliced pickles, and finally a slice of cheddar cheese.

After that, place the top bun on the burger, and voila – you're done!

So what do you think, folks? Are you looking to give this Macca's cheeseburger fakeaway a shot? We’re certainly feeling hungry after writing this. Let us know in the comments!

The closest thing to a Macas bun is the milk buns sold at Coles and woollies if you can't find them the use brioche buns. Normal hamburger buns are to big and doughy to get the real macas feel

I used to make McMums for my kids. They really loved them. Though they were partial to a maccas burger now and then.
