Remembering the life of the Outlaws guitarist Freddie Salem (70)

Another profound loss has struck the music world.

Freddie Salem, the former guitarist of Southern rock band Outlaws, has passed away at the age of 70.

Salem's death left a void in the hearts of rock enthusiasts and fellow musicians.

Representatives from his current project, Freddie Salem and Lonewolf, confirmed his death.

'This morning, the heavens parted for the arrival of a legend,' they wrote in a social media post.

'Rock on high, Freddie Salem. Until we meet again.'

Outlaws members also shared their grief with fans.

'Freddie passed from complications due to cancer and will be remembered for his outgoing personality and passion for music,' they wrote.

'He was an electric performer and beloved musician. He will be missed.'
Freddie Salem's journey with the Outlaws began in 1978 when he stepped in to replace the original guitarist, Henry Paul.

His debut with the band on the album Playin' to Win marked a new era for the band.

Salem heavily contributed to the band's subsequent four albums, which shaped their sound and legacy.

Salem's tenure with the Outlaws was a time of growth and success, with the band headlining major arenas and coliseums around the world.
Throughout their career, Outlaws went on tour with the Rolling Stones.

Salem described the experience as akin to a 'travelling circus'.

'There's always something going on. The Stones treated the Outlaws very well,' Salem shared in a previous interview.

'The experience was incomparable to anything I had ever experienced, till this day.'
In a 2021 interview, he reflected on their tour life and noted that even performances with the Grateful Dead paled in comparison to the Stones' tour.

Salem parted ways with the Outlaws in 1983 after Arista Records dropped the band off their label.

Yet, he continued to make waves in the music industry.

Salem released his solo album, Cat Dance, and played on a record for Barbra Streisand.

He showcased his versatility by crossing different genres and collaborating with a wide range of artists.

Salem remained active in the music scene in his later years, living between Los Angeles and New York for production and session work.

His dedication to his craft never waned, and his influence continued to be felt by those who had worked with him.
