Remember real bakery bikkies? ALDI’s $5.79 tray might surprise you!

ALDI’s latest move has supermarket shoppers doing a double-take.

The budget-friendly retailer has quietly rolled out a new bakery range that looks suspiciously like its big-name competitors’ offerings—but at prices that will make your wallet breathe a sigh of relief.

And if you’re a cookie lover, you’ll want to pay close attention.

Shoppers browsing the bakery aisle at ALDI might have noticed something new: Billie's Bakehouse cookies, available in a mixed tray of 24 Anzac, double choc and choc chip varieties for just $5.79.

That puts ALDI in direct competition with Coles, where a similar Mixed Cookie Tray from Coles Bakery costs $6.50.

Woolworths doesn't offer a mixed variety pack, but it does sell 24-packs of single-flavour cookies—Anzac, choc chip or Funfetti—for $6.00 each.

ALDI confirmed to 9honey that the Billie's Bakehouse range began rolling out in stores in February.

Another sweet addition to the range is Billie's Bakehouse Triple Choc Cookies—five per pack for $3.49—featuring a blend of milk, dark and white chocolate pieces.

According to ALDI's website, they are ‘perfect as a sweet treat with coffee or as an afternoon snack’.

But it’s not just the cookie selection that’s growing.

ALDI has also stocked its shelves with Bon Appetit Chocolate Chip Brioche, available as sliced loaves for $4.69, along with rolls and croissants.

For those after something more rustic, the Wild Origins Artisan Sourdough range includes Dark Rye, Rustic White, Wholemeal, Multigrain, Soy & Linseed, and Cracked Wheat varieties—each loaf priced at $5.99.

These new products reflect the steady expansion of ALDI’s bakery range, which now includes everything from gluten-free bread to sweet treats like donuts, muffins, pikelets and waffles.

While ALDI offers fewer items overall—around 1,800 compared to the 25,000 stocked at Coles and Woolworths—about 90 per cent of its products are exclusive brands not sold elsewhere.

The move comes just days after ALDI confirmed it would be trialling a new on-demand grocery delivery service in partnership with DoorDash.

The trial began in Canberra, with plans to expand the service to more areas later this year.

If ALDI's bold new bakery range has caught your eye, it's not the first time the supermarket has stirred things up in the sweet treats aisle.

The brand’s approach to competing with bigger supermarket chains has extended beyond pricing—sometimes even sparking controversy.

One of its cookie products landed ALDI in hot water with a major snack company over packaging that looked a little too familiar.
