Qantas’ surprise 72-hour sale starts at just $99 for a one-way trip!

Qantas has announced a three-day sale, starting with fares at $99, in a strategic move that appears designed to counter some of their rival airline’s recent offers.

But with whispers of Qantas’ fare increases on the horizon, the airline is keen to stay competitive in the market.

The airline has highlighted that its discounted flight sale spans over 60 domestic destinations–an enticing opportunity for Aussies to rediscover their homeland.

Interestingly, a good portion of these routes, specifically more than 40, have ticket prices set at $150 or below, which are applicable for travels this year and the next.

If you're ready to book quickly and can be flexible with your travel dates, you can grab economy tickets at these prices:
  • Melbourne to Sydney for $145
  • Adelaide to Melbourne for $125
  • Sunshine Coast to Melbourne for $159.
Customers holding Qantas COVID credits can choose between requesting a refund or receiving double Qantas points for any flights they book using their COVID credits before 31 December.

The airline’s recent short-term sale comes after reports that flight fares will increase due to the rising cost of fuel.

The airline has cited it had no alternative but to implement the increase. But this transfers the burden of rising costs to its passengers.

Starting from 27 October, ticket prices for both domestic and international Qantas flights will see a 3.5 per cent hike, adding more financial strain to budget-conscious Aussies.

‘It just seems like they're taking the p***. Australians don't like that,’ one upset woman said upon hearing the news of the price surge. You can read more on this here.

Starting next week, Jetstar flights will also see a 3 per cent price increase.

In similar news, Virgin Airlines is also offering discounted fares for select destinations between January 2024 and 20 June 2024.

Additionally, the airline is providing double status credits for eligible flights, allowing frequent travellers to earn extra points through the Velocity Frequent Flyer Loyalty program.

Please note that Virgin's discounted prices are applicable only for one-way economy lite seats.

For those in Melbourne seeking warmth and sunshine, flights to the Sunshine Coast are available for as low as $125.

Sydney residents planning holidays for the next year can book trips to Hamilton Island for $126, while Brisbane residents can fly to Perth for $239.

The cheapest destinations on the list are flights from Sydney to Launceston, Tasmania, and from Brisbane to Prosperine, Queensland, both priced at $86.

Brisbane residents can also take advantage of the next cheapest discounted option, with flights to Newcastle available for $95.

Adelaide locals can travel to Canberra for $160 one-way.

Virgin Australia said the 72-hour sale provides an opportunity for Aussies grappling with the cost-of-living crisis to enjoy more affordable holidays. More details about this story can be read here.

‘The much-anticipated Velocity double Status Credits offer will help the loyalty program's almost 12 million members climb the status ranks faster,’ said a Virgin Australia spokesperson.

Qantas’ sale will last for 72 hours, or until all available tickets are claimed.
