Professional cleaner reveals the SIX things you SHOULD AVOID if you want to make cleaning your home a breeze

We all know that cleaning our homes can be a difficult and time-consuming task. But did you know that some household items can actually make cleaning our homes harder than we think?

Take, for example, the blinds with small slats that we often install on our windows. The slat can collect dust which can accumulate over time, making it difficult for homeowners to clean each slat individually.

The blinds are just one of the items mentioned by expert cleaner Kacie in a recent TikTok video that you should stay away from if you want to efficiently clean difficult-to-reach areas in your home.

The professional cleaner, who runs Melbourne company The Big Clean Co, advised against picking things like square sinks, black tapware, and freestanding bathtubs when you do your home renovations.

She particularly pointed out that freestanding bathtubs and shower paraphernalia that we often install right beside a wall in our bathrooms, take a lot of space, making it difficult for cleaners to clean the tight gap between the tub and the wall.

'You need to be able to clean in there,' she said.

Kacie also recommended opting for circular or oval sinks over square sinks, claiming that the corners of square sinks are ‘very unpleasant to clean’.

The professional advised against installing 'sensitive' black tapware unless you were 'really sure it's durable,' as the black finish will eventually fade and reveal the golden brass underneath.

When it comes to installing kitchen cabinets, she suggested keeping the gap between kitchen cabinets and the ceiling to a minimum because, as she put it, 'it's just a shelf to catch grease on’.

Finally, she said that she was not in favour of installing window tracks, which merely collect dust, filth, and debris, because they are difficult to clean,

The post has gone viral, garnering more than 600,000 views and hundreds of comments from users who were astounded by this little-known tip.

One user wrote: 'Fellow cleaner here! COMPLETELY AGREE!'

'This is so reaffirming. I thought I was whingy,' another said.

Some people had a few objections to the claims...

'Can't avoid window tracks,' one person wrote, to which Kacie replied with: 'We only see window tracks in particular types of units here, they're actually not very common, fortunately.'

Another argued: 'And I don't understand WHY wouldn't you build the cabinets aaaaallll the way up? extra storage! Fancy vase you only use once a year? Top shelf.'

There are many things in our homes that we may not realise are actually making it harder to keep things clean. We may not agree with some of these claims but following tips from experts will not hurt.

Storage containers STILL collect dust though no matter how high. We moved to a unit without cupboards over the stove. Our regrets ever since. The guy placed cupboards too high, so the upper shelves are too high. Put paper across the top to find the dust & grease accumulates from the stove. Now I cannot reach that far. Restrictions from 2 prosthesis knees, old age etc. And as for lighting, one needs to be Tarzan to clean the various shades that when I see a tall gentleman I should ask him for "A bob a job" help. If I never had to consider the cost of gas & electricity to keep the warmth in I would do away with all curtains & blinds because of the cords to clean periodically. Every Freezer & Frig should have wheels as standard equipment to pull out & clean properly underneath. Standard equipment for every new home should be AIDS for when older. Even kids need a rail as it would help them to shower. Many 2 storey homes have no rails to help you so in one of my experiences in a friends home the walls were dirty with hand marks from the kids. If you don't have a second toilet the Japanese have the right idea. They are in our country in a small way. They have a wash hand basin over the toilet which is such a great idea to not only easy clean but saves gallons of water. Everything they use does not have the cleaning we do around their homes. It is so easy. No carpets to worry about. Each room is so many tatami's in size. You NEVER walk inside with boots or shoes. You change into light footwear that never dirties the tatami. They use sliding shoji screens some vary but are all easy to clean. The bedding is placed in narrow cupboards on shelves unless they need airing or washing. Our life style gives us so much more cleaning especially our drapes & curtains. Our big homes with beautiful velvet curtains & lounge suites are elegant but live on dust. You can't clean them every week., & so on it goes. .The tatami measures from memory 6 ft X 3 ft & all lies flat. They call them mats but they are laid so many to a room. You can't fall over anything like I used to do until they were and ARE forbidden as we grow old. Too late to build for me now, but one day in the near future I hope our builders will stop the dust in homes by changing many a home they build to warrant less work for mankind. Us housewives would love to tackle lots of things but we need first to get rid of so much cleaning. Many homes are being built by "blueprint housewives" today. After all they are the ones who have to clean. For my time left I pray our Club will not disband. It has been my lifesaver & I will forever be indebted to the Life Saving 6 that were responsible for its initiation. You never know everything so by helping each other you learn so much more. Look, listen & learn.
