Professional cleaner debunks popular cleaning myth – do you do this too?

To this day, there are probably thousands and thousands of cleaning hacks out there on the internet, showing how to make every corner of our homes spotlessly clean. But are they really as effective as some people make them out to be?

Here, one professional cleaner unveils the truth on one of the popular “home hacks” that have been going around social media for quite a while.

Kacie Stephens, a professional cleaner based in Melbourne, has been featured in several of our stories before for her amazing household tips, like this kitchen sink cleaning tip. That’s why we can count on her advice to be valid and responsible.

Regarding the now-viral home hack that involves mixing dishwashing liquid with vinegar to create a “DIY all-purpose cleaner” at home, Kacie said that the whole thing is “pointless” and does not actually do anything.

To explain, she said that both of the ingredients are excellent cleaners themselves. However, they both cancel each other out once they are mixed together.

Kacie described that the acidic property of vinegar is what makes it an exceptional cleaner for most household mess. Dishwashing liquid, on the other hand, is closer to basic on the pH scale, which means that it would neutralise the acids in vinegar when they are combined.

“Use one or the other – not both.” said the professional cleaner.

Many admitted that they tried doing the viral hack and kept wondering why it was not working.

“I kept trying it for the soap scum on my shower screen; it didn’t work,” said one user. A second person added that when she tried doing the hack, the solution became really thick and solid, and later found out that it was not effective at all.

One mum even shared that she “almost died” from the smell of the resulting solution!

There you go, folks! It has been proven that no good comes from mixing vinegar and dishwashing liquid together.

Instead of combining them, Kacie recommends using a good brand of dishwashing liquid alone to clean hard surfaces in your home. In fact, she considers dishwashing liquid a cant-live-without product! It’s that good!

And for vinegar, aside from adding flavour to our dishes, it can be used to remove grease from our appliances when mixed with water. You can even make your own all-natural multi-purpose cleaner when you add lemon peels to the solution!

Half a cup of vinegar into the washing machine removes the smell of stinky clothes and makes bath towels nice and fluffy but do not put it in with the washing powder, put it in the fabric conditioner section!

The best shower walls cleaner is, put a capful of Tea tree oil and Eucalyptus oil in a spray bottle, fill with white vinegar, this mix is excellent for removing soap scum, dirt and germs from the shower walls😘
