Police suspect elderly woman's mysterious death as homicide

In a quiet suburb, a community grappled with a chilling discovery that left many residents questioning the safety of their homes.

Police were summoned to a disturbance in Togo Place, only to uncover a scene that would mark the beginning of a harrowing investigation.

Wanda Dorothy Uhle, a 78-year-old woman, was found deceased in her townhouse, which prompted authorities to treat her passing as a domestic violence incident and a suspected homicide.

Detective Acting Superintendent Stephen Ladd revealed that her husband, 86-year-old Manfred Uhle, was arrested shortly after.

Mr Uhle was placed under police guard in Canberra Hospital due to a possible 'cardiac episode' and is yet to be charged as the investigation unfolds.

The details of Ms Uhle's injuries and the crime scene's specifics remain undisclosed.

A post-mortem examination is underway to determine the exact cause of her death.
Superintendent Ladd emphasised the suspicious nature of the case.

'We are treating this as suspicious and treating it as a homicide investigation,' Ladd stated.

According to the police, the Uhles had prior interactions with law enforcement—adding mystery and shock to the case.

Superintendent Ladd also shared that no other individuals were involved and highlighted the ongoing assistance of Mr Uhle in the investigation, framing the tragedy as a family violence incident.

The incident cast a sombre shadow on their community, prompting Superintendent Ladd to extend his sorrow to Ms Uhle's friends and family.

He urged the public to remain vigilant, especially regarding the physical and mental health of elderly community members.

'If you think there are issues, reach out and talk to someone, and get the assistance they need to avoid situations like this,' he implored.

As forensic police continue their examination, the community continues to ponder the fragility of life and the hidden struggles that may occur behind closed doors.

Police also called on anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.

Very sad at her passing and may she rest in peace 🙏.

I feel it's a little bit early to post this due to the fact that they haven't received her autopsy results and it's assuming her husband did it.

There are yet any facts but now everyone is assuming her husband did it.

Something that doesn't make sense is
According to the police, the Uhles had prior interactions with law enforcement—adding mystery and shock to the case.
why would this be adding mystery and shock if they had previous interactions with the police.

This story definitely needs to read innocent until proven guilty

Absolutely right ,good on you Suzanne.
It seems to me that neglect by family and authorities caused this issue.
Did one or both have dementia, causing the other huge stress, and that is only IF the husband is responsible.
