If left unkempt and disorganised, the laundry room can be the messiest place in your home. And naturally, having a messy room can really make your life harder when it comes to doing your daily laundry.
There’s nothing worse than finally deciding to tackle the dreaded dirty laundry pile, only to realise you can’t find things like soap, detergent, washing powders, and other stuff. To add insult to injury, you can even trip over all the dirty clothes and sheets, which is a fall hazard (it’s happened to us, folks)!
Not to mention, simply looking at all the mess can stress you out, even before sorting through any of the clothes.
That is why it's important that you always maintain and keep your laundry room organised and mess-free.
If you're not sure where to start, just take a look at how this one mum organised hers!
Using a few items she bought from Kmart and IKEA, Tilisa from Perth gave her previously messy laundry room a stunning makeover.
The first thing she did was replace the damaged black benchtop with a new one – a white benchtop she bought from the Swedish retailer IKEA.
Then, she added black tin storage containers that she bought from Kmart. These containers serve as storage for her washing powders and pegs.
She also installed an additional floating shelf above her washing unit which holds several spray bottles she frequently uses for her laundry. This way, she can simply reach above if she ever needs anything.
To add bits of life and freshness to the room, she placed a few artificial plants on the shelves and added a sleek reed diffuser she bought from Kmart.
Tilisa posted her laundry room makeover on Facebook and received hundreds of reactions from fellow homeowners, commending her for such a job well done.

So, here are some more space organisation tips that won't have you spending even a single cent (or, maybe just a few).
- Repurpose reusable food storage (like old mason jars) into laundry containers for essentials, such as clothespins, detergent pods, and loose change.
- Label your containers, cabinets, and even laundry baskets to avoid messing up the place.
- Take advantage of often-neglected taller heights by installing tension rods between the walls. They are functional for air-drying fresh laundry, dry cleaning, and steaming your clothes.
- Utilise your wall space by placing wall hooks, where you can hang brooms and mops to keep them from falling over.
- Give everything a place, such as your cleaning supplies and washing machine. Also, allow extra space for dirty laundry, folded towels and anything else you may want to store.
