One of the funniest and most memorable moments in the history of Australia's television industry (or at least, one of our personal favourites) was when Karl Stefanovic hosted the Today show drunk the morning after the 2009 Logie Awards.
While Karl has since apologised for his inappropriate actions in front of thousands of viewers, it seems that the 'iconic' TV moment has remained ingrained in the minds of many...
On the morning after the Melbourne Cup, Karl had a chance to interview Jamie Lovett, the owner of this year's cup-winning horse Gold Trip.
'Joining us now - after a night of hard partying, I presume - is owner Jamie Lovett from Melbourne,' Karl said as he introduced the horse trainer.
The 48-year-old then asked Lovett how he felt after his triumphant victory at the cup.
Karl greeted: 'Good morning. How are you feeling, tiger?'
'Probably like you did that night after the Logies!' Lovett quipped right away, causing Stefanovic to lose his composure and burst into laughter.
For those who aren’t aware, Karl has only recently admitted that he was actually drunk– not simply hungover– when he appeared on a memorable episode of Today.
'I managed to stumble into the studio, with a stack of cards in hand containing all the questions for the show,' he divulged during an appearance on The Hundred.
'I was handed the cards and asked to read the first one myself– which I did. I managed to read it and hold my own.'
While not everyone in the studio audience immediately recalled Karl's controversy, comedian Tom Walker sprung to his defence right away.
'There's nothing more charming than doing a job badly. It's good! Turning up hungover to do your job…' he pointed out.
To which Karl replied to the comedian: 'Just to pick you on one point, I wasn't hungover. I was still drunk.'
The 'awkward' confession prompted the Australian media personality to issue another public apology for his contentious appearance, acknowledging that he was not 'at his best' following a night of partying at the Logies.
He said: 'I guess the first thing I have to say is that yes, it was a very big Logies night, probably too big.'
'I didn't feel drunk when I woke up the next morning, otherwise, I would not have gone on-air. I like to think that I'm professional enough to have made that decision.'
'But clearly, from the vision that I have seen, I wasn't at my best and what I want to do is apologise to anyone out there who may have, um, you know, been offended by my behaviour on Monday morning. So, humble apologies to you all.'
Not that we're putting malice on the TV host's actions, but for those who are curious and would like to catch a brief sneak peek of Karl Stefanovic’s drunken antics back in 2009, you can by watching the video below:
