Overseas travel will soon be possible through vaccine passports

With the rollout of the federal government’s international vaccine passport, Australians are now one step closer to international travel.

Just recently, NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet announced that all forms of quarantine will be scrapped for international arrivals. This is the government’s latest move in a concerted effort to return international travel to pre-pandemic norms.

The statement said that the proof of vaccination will be available to Australian passport holders and Australian visa holders, given that their COVID-19 vaccinations were recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register.

"The international proof of vaccination features a secure QR code to prove COVID-19 vaccination status to border authorities around the world and increases a person's ability to travel safely and with confidence," they confirmed.

Fully vaccinated Australians will be able to depart the country and travel internationally, consistent with the National Plan to transition Australia’s COVID-19 Response.

The proof of vaccination or ‘vaccination passport’ is available for digital download or in printed form and is compatible with COVID-19 travel apps such as the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Travel Pass.

From the beginning of November, international travel restrictions will start to ease for fully vaccinated Australians, as stated by the federal government.
Though most countries will require proof of vaccination from Australians, there are others that will not.

The international proof of vaccination will carry the same Visible Digital Seal technology as the Australian passport, ensuring the same world-leading and secure quality.

"The international certificate meets the new global standard specified by the International Civil Aviation Organisation and conforms with World Health Organisation guidance," said their statement.

"The launch of the international proof of vaccination is a key step towards safely reopening international borders and supporting Australia's COVID-19 economic recovery."

Citizens may apply to get the free international certificate by using their Medicare account through myGov or the Medicare Express app.
