This is exactly what happen to me and my daughter a woman on her bike came out off a side turning I threw my arm across my girl, but she still had a nasty bump on her forehead from hitting it on the dashboard. I did a lot of searching to find some suitable seat belts and found some that racing car drivers used as there was no seatbelts required at that time
 
This is a good one. This is a picture of my mum and how she drove when I was a little boy on the bench seat car when pulling up or breaking. I think lots of parents did this. Now we make sure everyone is belted up and the young ones in their seats, even our dog has a car seat and harness. How times have changed. Thanking you for a giggle.
