Online content creator faces ban after his videos. What did he do?

In the digital age, the line between public and private moments can often become blurred.

A content creator recently faced a harsh ban over some of his videos, some filmed in Australia's famous beach destination.

American content creator Sayed has been banned from the social media app TikTok over videos of him picking up women.

Yet, the ban should serve as a stark reminder that not all content is fair game, mainly when it involves people's privacy.

With over two million followers across different social media platforms, Sayed's videos typically showcased him approaching women.

Sayed would often shower these unsuspecting women with compliments and ask for their phone numbers.

Several of Sayed's videos were taken in Melbourne and Sydney.

While these videos seemed harmless on the surface, the reality was far more invasive.

Sayed's modus operandi involved the use of Rayban's Meta smart glasses.

The smart glasses Sayed wore, which closely resembled regular sunglasses, made it nearly impossible for her and others to detect they were being recorded.

The unsuspecting individuals found themselves on his social media platforms without their consent, which was a clear violation of privacy.

One woman's experience highlighted the distress caused by Sayed's actions.

She knew about her unwanted appearance in Sayed's video when friends from the United Kingdom recognised and notified her.

Another one of Sayed's victims in Kings Cross expressed her discomfort and frustration towards the creator.

Sayed allegedly blocked her after requesting for the removal of her video.

This incident, among others, led to Sayed being reported to the NSW Police.

A recent incident involving Sayed on Bondi Beach led to an investigation for him breaching the Listening Devices Act 1992.

In New South Wales, recording private conversations without the consent of all parties is illegal and could result in up to five years in jail.

After receiving reports from some of Sayed's victims, TikTok immediately banned Sayed's account.

'We have permanently banned this account for violating our strict community guidelines,' a TikTok representative stated.

This move reinforced the platform's stance on protecting user privacy.

The community's reaction to Sayed's behaviour has been one of concern and solidarity.

A social media warning was issued on Bondi's community page, alerting locals of potential privacy violations occurring in public spaces across the eastern suburbs.

The warning emphasised the deceptive nature of Sayed's approach and the subsequent exploitation of these women's images without their knowledge or consent.

As we navigate the complexities of social media, this incident should be a cautionary tale for
content creators and consumers alike.

It's a reminder to respect privacy, to be vigilant about the content we engage with, and to support those who have been wronged in the digital sphere.
