We all fantasise about winning the lottery because it's a once-in-a-blue-moon experience. We imagine what we would do with all that money, and how our lives would change.
When it comes to money, everyone has different ideas about how to spend it and how to use it. Some people would prefer to use their winnings to purchase a new home, travel the world, settle their debts, or just leave it all to fate and have fun with their new fortune.
For others, their wish is simple — that is to give up their jobs and retire comfortably.
Speaking of which, after twenty of his employees won $53 million in the biggest Powerball jackpot in Australian history, their boss warned them that he would come after them if they refused to return to work.
Last Thursday, a lotto syndicate from the mining town of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, claimed the massive prize – the second time in the past year that a local syndicate has won a mega-prize.
Each of the 20 night shift miners who work at a gold mine will now be $2.6 million richer thanks to the $53 million cash prize that they collectively won from the Powerball draw.
Their employer, Chris Wood, who also claims that the group are his ‘best workers’, was told about their win.
'They called me up to tell me they won the lotto and I did not believe them,' he shared.
'I'm ecstatic. I'm very happy for each of them. I expect I might lose them though.'
'I told them I will run after them and steal their ticket if they don't come back.'
Not to worry members, it was all said in good humour!
One of the winners, who used the alias ‘Peter’ to conceal his identity, stated that the group had never played the lottery together until Thursday's jackpot.
He said: 'It was just a one-off because it was a big draw.'
'We just couldn't believe it. We all put $100 in, spur of the moment sort of thing.'
Fortunately for Mr Wood, at least one of his employees is thinking of staying at work despite their massive win, with the miner filming her reaction to the win, saying: 'You know how they say, one Powerball and I'm out of here? Well, it ain't true. I've known since the start of my shift and I'm still loading trucks.'
Mr Wood added: 'So yeah, there's 18 at my work who are now millionaires.'
Peter also recalled how he repeatedly verified the winning numbers earlier that evening and had informed his coworkers about the Division Two victory with great excitement.
However, he didn't realise they would be sharing in the record-breaking division one prize pool until much later.
Peter shared: 'I couldn't believe it, I checked the ticket about 10 times.'
Members of the winning syndicate, who have remained anonymous for the duration of the draw and in the weeks that have followed, plan to provide for their families and share their new fortunes with their friends.
