Noodle recalled from store shelves over allergen risk

If you’ve recently decided to grab some Nissin Big Cup Noodle Curry at your local store, you might want to rethink that choice.
Food Standards Australia announced an urgent recall of the product from independent food retailers across Victoria over concerns that it could cause a reaction in select consumers.
The recall covers Nissin Big Cup Noodle Curry 120g with best before dates of March 7, 2023, and March 30, 2023
According to Food Standards Australia, the product has been recalled due to the presence of undeclared allergens, including egg, milk, peanut, soy and sesame.
‘Any consumers who have an egg, milk, peanut, soy and/or sesame allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if the product is consumed,’ Food Standards Australia warned.
‘Consumers who have an egg, milk, peanut, soy and/or sesame allergy or intolerance should not consume this product and should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.’
Potential irritants such as those listed missing in the noodles are required to be declared in bold text on the packaging of food items that contain them, except in certain cases where processing makes them fit for consumption.
Those with allergies related to the ingredients listed who eat the noodles could be at risk of a potentially life-threatening reaction.
According to allergy support group Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia, a reaction can occur anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours after eating.
Mild allergic reaction symptoms include hives; swelling especially in the face, lips, and eyes; a tingling sensation in the mouth; and vomiting.
Severe reactions, otherwise known as anaphylaxis, include difficulty breathing, swelling of the tongue and throat, persistent dizziness, collapsing, and a ‘pale and floppy’ appearance in children.
Those suffering from these reactions should immediately be treated with medication (EpiPen or AnaPen) and when applicable, anyone else present should call 000.
For further information related to the recall, customers can reach Wonders Trading Pty Ltd by phone at 03 9706 3928.
In related news, a line of laundry and household cleaning products was also recalled in December 2022 over microbiological contamination.
When it comes to food safety, remember that it’s always important to check the food packaging (and reviews, if you can) before making any purchases.
