Night Court's beloved bailiff Richard Moll (80), passes away

Fans of the legendary 1980s sitcom Night Court are mourning the loss of one of its most beloved stars.

Actor Richard Moll, best known for his role as the quirky yet kind-hearted bailiff on the show, has sadly passed away at the age of 80.

He peacefully left this world last Thursday in his beloved home at Big Bear Lake, California, a family representative confirmed Friday.

The NBC sitcom Night Court aired from 1984 to 1992, Moll skilfully portrayed Aristotle Nostradamus 'Bull' Shannon alongside co-stars Harry Anderson and John Larroquette.

Moll’s shaved head, towering height, and famous catchphrase, 'Ohh-kay,' made his character as the 'giant' kind-hearted bailiff unforgettable for fans.

However, the actor did not participate in the television show's recent 2023 reboot.

Due to his intimidating stature at a whopping 6 feet and 8 inches tall, Moll was described as a character with a 'muscular stature', and a 'deep gravelly voice'.

In addition to Night Court, Moll shared his unique 'villainous' voice with various video games, comic book projects and animated series, such as Spider-Man: The Animated Series and Batman: The Animated Series.

He also lent his talent to horror films, such as Ghost Shark and Slay Belles, and satirical flicks like But I'm a Cheerleader and Scary Movie 2.

Moll’s other notable appearances include roles in Jingle All the Way, The Flintstones, and Thomas Kinkade's Christmas Cottage.

Before becoming an actor, Richard graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1964 with degrees in history and psychology.

He then supported his community as a deputy probation officer in Alameda County.

In 1968, he made the big decision to move to Hollywood. Although, as Richard once joked in a 2003 People magazine interview, 'it took [him] 10 years to find [his] way to the bathroom.'

Away from the spotlight, Moll was an avid fly-fisherman.

Moll leaves behind his children, Chloe and Mason Moll, his first wife, Susan Moll, and his stepchildren, Cassandra Card and Morgan Ostling.

Billy Corben, Moll’s co-actor in Night Court, remembered his colleague on social media saying: 'RIP, Richard Moll (aka "Bull" the Bailiff on “Night Court”)—I'm sorry they made me be so mean to you back in 1991.'

While musician and film writer, John Saunders shared their favourite scene of the late actor on Night Court to remember him.

'One of my favourites and [the] best scene with Randee Heller. Rest in Peace Richard Moll,' they wrote.
