News crew captures daytime armed carjacking unfold LIVE

In a scene reminiscent of an action movie, a Nine News crew found themselves as front-row witnesses to a harrowing attempted carjacking.

The incident, which unfolded on Victoria Street in the bustling suburb of Richmond, Melbourne, has left the local community shaken and raised questions about public safety in broad daylight.

The Nine News team, who were in the area for an unrelated story, captured the terrifying moment a man wielding a hammer approached two men seated in their late model Jeeps.

The footage, which has since been widely circulated, shows the man aggressively swinging the hammer at the men in a brazen attempt to hijack one of the vehicles.

As the crew watched in horror, the man managed to enter one of the Jeeps.

However, his plan was thwarted when he was unable to start the vehicle. Not deterred, the would-be carjacker stepped out and, in a fit of rage, began to smash the windows of the car.

The audacity of the crime, committed in plain sight, has left many Melburnians feeling uneasy.

Passersby who witnessed the incident described it as 'shocking' and 'frightening', sentiments echoed by viewers who later saw the footage on the news.

Victoria Police were quick to respond to the scene, and a man has since been arrested in connection with the incident.

While no charges have been laid as of yet, one person was treated at the scene for minor injuries sustained during the confrontation.

The police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and have called for anyone with further information to come forward.

This incident serves as a stark reminder that, despite our best efforts to maintain a sense of security, unexpected dangers can arise at any time.

It also highlights the bravery and quick thinking of the news crew, who, while ensuring their own safety, managed to document the event, providing crucial evidence for the authorities.

It's important to remember to stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings, especially in busy areas. If you find yourself in a dangerous situation, try to remain calm and look for ways to remove yourself from harm's way safely.

Was there one or two cars? If one, then the word should be JEEP not JEEPS. This story could be a fake.

One common denominator, diversity is not our friend. Import third world, become third world, we're too soft on criminals. Deport them immediately, no using our resources to fight in court, just deport.
Just because someone's skin is a different colour doesn't mean they have arrived here from a third world country. They could have been born here. I worked with a gentleman from Sudan, who was a refugee. His parents and relatives were killed by militants in Sudan. He escaped through Egypt with his pregnant wife. The man now lives in one of our cities, works hard and has 3 sons all working at good jobs, he raised them here and sent them to school and church. He struggled to keep the gangs away from them and is grateful to live in Australia. His parents were killed in the hut next door to his uncle who he happened to be visiting at the time. Luckily the uncle had a hut with a door back and front and he escaped across the bush with his wife. There are good and bad people in all cultures.

If you look at the se3cond picture you will see there were 2, you can make out the front guard of the second.

I can't understand why no charges have been laid. This man was caught red handed. Just confirms how useless and stupid our so called trained cops are. No wonder there is so much crime.
Probably because he was an immigrant and he claimed he didn't know our laws or something as stupid.

If you read the article it says two jeeps, and mentions him trying to get into one of the jeeps.

Quote: The footage, which has since been widely circulated, shows the man aggressively swinging the hammer at the men in a brazen attempt to hijack one of the vehicles.
Another quote: As the crew watched in horror, the man managed to enter one of the Jeeps.

Please read articles with more care.

ignorance is not accepted as an excuse of breaking the law....unless you are a migrant and dont understand English...or say you dont ....actually no matter what language one speaks, everyone knows right from wrong
I understand and know that, but the magistrates and the like are giving too many of these offenders a free pass. Look at some of the penalties overseas for rape for one.

When they commit crimes not your mates, I'm surprised I need to say it. There are plenty of asshats from Britain that should be deported too, but the majority are from third world, you're a troll.
