New study suggests that shopping home brand ALDI products can save you more than $2,000 a year

ALDI's price report for 2022 has some good news for Aussie shoppers - you can save a lot of money by switching to their home brand products!

The report found that the prices of home brand ALDI prices are 15.6 per cent cheaper than the cheapest competitor, and 24.7 per cent cheaper than the equivalent branded product. This means that the average family could save over $2,000 a year by making the switch to Aldi.

It was reported that a staggering 98 per cent of shoppers have noticed a significant increase in the overall cost of living — soaring prices of petrol, groceries, and household bills — compared to previous years. Over four in five or about 81 per cent of those surveyed are concerned about the affordability of living costs in the next year.

It was also revealed that Aussies are most worried about grocery affordability, with 51 per cent of respondents citing this as a major concern. This is second only to petrol, which 59 per cent of respondents said was a major worry.

Additionally, two-thirds (65 per cent) of the respondents admitted that they are feeling the financial pressure in the past year, while 33 per cent confessed that they are doing "worse-off" financially than in the same period last year.

It's no surprise that price is now the most important factor in the weekly grocery shop for 45% of people. With the cost of living rising, it's no wonder that 49% of people are taking greater consideration of price when they shop.

Aussie shoppers are looking to save money, with over three-quarters (78 per cent) reducing their purchases in the last 12 months. And it looks like they'll be keeping a close eye on their spending in the year ahead, with plans to do more of the same.

Interestingly, only one in 10 (9 per cent) have switched supermarkets as a strategy to save money. But when it comes to cutting back on spending, going out to restaurants or ordering takeaway (44 per cent) and buying meat (39 per cent) are the highest-ranking categories.

However, ALDI's study highlighted that families can save 18% on their grocery bill by shopping in the store's fresh meat range. This is a significant savings, especially for families who are on a tight budget.

Managing Director for Aldi Australia Oliver Bongardt said: "This report confirms that the prices of groceries have never been more important to Australian shoppers. Our message is clear - we don't want to see Aussies cutting down on meat or other loved items because they are now considered a luxury."

"We know inflationary pressure is real, but this research shows in black-and-white that by making the switch to Aldi, there are real savings available."

If Aldi changed and started home deliveries I would do almost all my shopping there. As it stands I'm mostly stuck with Woolies as I can't walk far enough to complete a full trek round the shop.:(

I can't shop at Aldi, I have a bad back, and all the double handling to pack is ridiculous....as they have to pick up the item to scan it, how it takes any more time to drop it in your bags rather than in a trolley is beyond me!! No customer service...it should be cheaper!!

I read an article that put Aldi's home brand products last! Woolworths came in first!
True. It depends on who commissions the study, as they already have an outcome that they want to achieve to best position their "findings". Couldn't imagine Woolies running a survey that would have an outcome showing Aldi or Coles as the leading supermarket.
Very very hard to find a truly "independent" study or survey these days
