Two men, residents of the home, managed to escape the inferno, but not without injury as one of them suffered significant burns after his clothes caught fire—a terrifying situation that could have led to even more severe consequences had it not been for the intervention of neighbours Joshua Cannane and Connor Williams.

‘He was just running around trying to get any bit of clothing that was on fire off him,’ Cannane recounted.
An off-duty nurse joined the pair, and together they began the first aid process, laying wet towels on the man to soothe the burns and prevent further injury.
Williams, recalling the incident, said, ‘(He) ran to my place and (started) begging for water. Everybody helped him out.’

Another neighbour, whose name remains unknown, braved the flames to rescue the pair's dog, which was trapped inside the fully involved home.

Both residents of the home were taken to hospital for burns, and the man who rescued the dog also received medical attention.
