NBN Co will boost the speeds of its three current top-tier residential services, and introduce a new 2 Gbps tier, in mid-September of next year.
The company floated a plan in March to remake its 100/20 Mbps tier to 500/50 Mbps, its 250/25 Mbps tier to 750/50 Mbps, and its gigabit tier 750-1000/50-100 Mbps.
Then, in May, it proposed creating an entirely new tier of services with download speeds of 2 Gbps.
The company said that after a period of consultation, it had been agreed to start both in September 2025.
Continuing its current branding theme, 2 Gbps services will be called ‘hyperfast’.
The 2 Gbps service will come with an upload speed of either 100 Mbps or 200 Mbps, depending on whether the access technology is HFC or fibre respectively.
The company also foreshadowed some changes to its business offerings in the same time period, including a 2 Gbps product with 500 Mbps upload speeds with a service level agreement “to investigate and work to resolve any unplanned network outages or faults within four hours.”
It also said it would “reduce the effective wholesale price” of its 250/100 Mbps, 500/20 Mbps and 100/400 Mbps “plus Pro packages” for business; and offer “reductions in its wholesale prices for enterprise and medium-sized corporate customers.”
