Charging us to use a card, when using cash is free, is so wrong. Taking freedom of choice away for the benefit of everyone but the customers, without whom there would be no businesses or economy....or governments for that matter.
Also, businesses pay the tax banks charge for each transaction, so lose some of their profit that way.

Also, businesses pay the tax banks charge for each transaction, so lose some of their profit that way.
But these charges are all tax deductible to them and cut down on the EOFY taxes but no to the individual who pays surcharges. So we pay the surcharges for the businesses, they collect the money on these surcharges, then get to be able to claim the charges that the banks charge as a tax deduction. It's like a double whammy to the consumer.
So therefor, pay cash where you can.

What are the costs involved in supplying "Free to Use" Cash?? Production of Notes and Coin. Transport to Reserve Bank for distribution to Banks. Storage and Security at Banks. Staff costs to dispense and receive cash. Ditto for all Merchants. Security Guard cost for transport of cash to/fro Banks. Insurance for "Cash in Transport" and "Cash on Premises" is NOT cheap and there has to be more. No wonder there is a push for a Cash Free environment OR maybe introduction of a fee to use Cash, like Cards. Food for thought isn't it. Please just let the system stand AS IS.
That was usually part of the service.
