Muriel's Wedding star Toni Collette makes bombshell personal announcement

Toni Collette, who portrayed the iconic role of Muriel in the 1994 movie Muriel’s Wedding, announced that she and her husband Dave Galafassi are divorcing.

The actress took to Instagram to share the news alongside a photo of the words ‘peace & love’.

'It is with grace and gratitude that we announce we are divorcing,' she wrote.

'We’re united in our decision and part with continuing respect and care for each other. Our kids are of paramount importance to us, and we will continue to thrive as a family, albeit a different shape.'

'We’re thankful for the space and love you grant us as we evolve and move through this transition peacefully.'

Collette then signed off the statement with both her and her ex-husband's names written, saying: 'Big thanks. Toni Collette and David Galafassi.'

The announcement came after photos of Galafassi kissing another woman on a Sydney beach made the rounds online.

It should be noted that Collette has previously been on social media hiatus and has only returned to the platform just 5 days before making the big announcement.

'I'm back. Hello, world. I love you,' she wrote, sharing a photo of herself looking out a window and clutching a cup.

Two days after her social media comeback, she posted a photo of the skeletons of two lovers discovered in Iran in 1972.

Collette wrote: 'Love is eternal. These two were found in Iran in 1972. They’ve been kissing and in this embrace for approximately 2800 years.'

'At first, they were thought to be two men but since discovered that she (left) was about 22 when she died. And he (right) was early 30s. I love them.'

The cryptic posts prompted her fans to speculate that she may be going through an emotional situation.

Collette and Galafassi, who had been married since 2003, share two children together.

On The Morning Show, entertainment writer Peter Ford covered the surprising split, detailing the underlying details surrounding the lifestyle change of the couple.

'There is a backstory here. Yesterday, the Daily Mail got paparazzi pictures of David at Manly beach passionately kissing a young woman - a mystery woman,' he remarked.

'When they went to Toni Collette’s management and asked "we have these pictures, can you give us a response" they didn’t get a response... But hours after that, Toni took to her Instagram to post the statement - a joint statement I might add - a nicely-worded statement about love and respect and first and foremost, the care and concern for their children,'

'We wish them both well.'

Unfortunately, not all marriages are made in heaven maybe because I believe heaven doesn't exist. Yes, there is someone perfect for everyone but most people have to settle for less as I did twice the first time it was expected by the families the second time for the sex I was not getting in the first. Both failed for different reasons. I have never met my soul mate & at 85 it is a no-brainer that I will never meet him now. Also, I am happy being on my own because to me I am the important one.

It's sad when any relationship comes to an end especially a long term one but sometimes it's the only way to save your sanity. It takes a lot of give and take for a relationship to thrive and it seems that these days a lot of people aren't prepared to put in the hard yards. :(
