Mum stuns DIY enthusiasts after revealing that she used an unlikely, new $3 Kmart item to create a posh-looking accessory — “Very creative!"

A new $3 Kmart item has left a mum stunned after she successfully created a posh-looking DIY accessory using it.

Can you see what the fuss is about?

Brisbane mum Michelle Rhodes said that she was strolling along the crafts section of her local Kmart store when she randomly stumbled upon the $3 Clay Stamps on one of the shelves.

The mum-of-one admitted that the "cute" patterns of the stamps caught her attention, giving her an idea to make crafty DIY earrings using them.

Michelle also quipped that she purchased a $5 pack of Polymer Clay — which comes in five neutral tones — along with the stamps to create the accessory.

So, how did she do it?

According to the mum, the first step is to squeeze and mould the clay — similar to that of kneading a dough — before shaping it into a shape that you like.

Michelle said: “Some people say it’s hard and stiff, but you just have to keep squeezing and moulding it with your hands.”

“You have to manipulate and make it soft. You then roll it into a ball and that’s when you’re able to work with it.”

Next, she used a rolling pin to "control" the clay's thickness, explaining that the "key" to the success of the project is in the thickness of the clay.

“You don’t want it too thin (or it will snap), and having it too thick makes it heavy on the earlobes, so you just need it thick enough to place the eye pin in,” she said.

Then, Michelle cut the clay before pressing it down the stamp.

While this is the exact process that the mum did for her DIY earrings, Michelle suggested: “(However) I have learnt that it’s best to stamp the clay before cutting as it keeps the shape."

“What I did was roll it out, cut it and then put the stamp on. When you push the stamp down it changes the shape of your design and you can be left with one earring bigger than the other.”

Finally, she attached the earring hooks to the shaped clay pieces before baking them in the oven at 120 degrees Celsius for 20 to 30 minutes.

She exclaimed: "I’m certainly not an expert when it comes to clay but I thoroughly enjoyed making these!”

Michelle said that while almost all of the items she used for the DIY project were bought from Kmart, the posts, hooks, and jump rings were purchased from a discount store.

“I did buy a few other Clay Stamps at @kmartaus and I can’t wait to create something interesting with those too,” she quipped.

“I think my favourite would have to be the rainbow stamp and the flower print, now all I have to do is find an outfit to match.”

One person wrote: “Wow!! These look incredible. Good job.”

“Very creative, they look great!” another added.

A third exclaimed: “Absolutely awesome!”
