Mum reveals the “ridiculous” name her husband wanted to call their son: "We're NOT calling him that"

There's nothing like a pregnancy to bring a couple closer together – until it's time to pick a name for their child, and one of them doesn't like what the other suggests.

According to a poll conducted by the folks at BabyCenter, half of the parents who participated in the survey said they disagreed with their partners about what to name their baby.

Thankfully though, most parents eventually make up and decide on a baby name they both like.

That is similar to what happened to this one mum.

Sharing her story on TikTok, Cathy revealed that her husband wanted to give their son a "ridiculous" name he got from his favourite animated TV show. "My partner has always had one very specific name in mind for our son," she said in the clip.

And the name the man has in mind is – Escanor.

For our members who do not know, Escanor (pictured above) is a fictional character in the animated TV series called 'Seven Deadly Sins'. The character is depicted as a middle-aged man with brown hair and a similarly-coloured moustache.

"It's a bit weird – there's nobody else on the Earth called [Escanor] and I've always said that we will never ever call our baby that," Cathy added.

"Nine months of pregnancy? We're not calling him that. When I gave birth? We're not calling him that."

"I was so worried he would get bullied in school I told him NO, never ever, ever are we calling him Escanor," she made herself clear.

In a shocking twist to the TikTok story, Cathy then turned the camera to the baby she was holding and said: "Six months after giving birth, here's baby Escanor!"

Turns out, the mum-of-one had a change of heart and she gave in to her husband's request. They are now calling their child ‘Baby Esky’.

"I really do love it now though, my wee Esky," she wrote in the video's caption.

Several users commented on her video, sharing her initial sentiment of disapproving of the name. But after seeing Baby Esky, they also changed their minds.

"When you said it I was a bit like… errr okay. Then you showed his little face and IT SUITS HIM SO WELL!" one user said.

Another agreed and added: "THAT IS ABSOLUTELY WHAT HE WAS MEANT TO BE CALLED."

Other users who loved the TV series as well commented and said the name was amazing. "I think it’s a beautiful name!" wrote one user.

What are your thoughts, folks? And do you have more "unusual" baby names you could add to the list?

Each to their own but what might seem like a good idea in 2022 might not be so in 2032 or 2042. Everybody hopes their kids will have a long life and so a name must stand the test of time.;)
