Multiple Honda and Volvo cars recalled over driving defects—are you at risk?

As we often rely on our vehicles for everything from the daily commute to leisurely road trips, it's crucial to stay informed about any potential safety issues that could affect our driving experience.

For our readers who are Honda and Volvo owners, there's an important update you need to be aware of.

Honda has issued a recall affecting over 16,000 vehicles due to a steering fault that could lead to increased risk on the roads.

The recall encompasses several popular models, including the CR-V, Civic, Civic Type R, and ZR-V, specifically from the 2021 to 2024 build years, corresponding to the 2022 to 2024 model years.

However, some of these vehicles may have been sold after these dates.

According to the recall notice filed with the Department of Infrastructure, ‘The warm wheel grease may be displaced over time. If this occurs, the Electronic Power Steering system (EPS) may not operate as intended.’

‘This may result in abnormal steering noise and greater steering effect.’

‘A greater steering effort could increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.’

For those concerned about whether their vehicle is affected, a full list of the vehicle identification numbers for the 16,001 cars involved in the recall can be found here.

Honda is proactively reaching out to owners of the affected vehicles in writing, urging them to contact their preferred authorised Honda Service Centre to arrange a booking.

The necessary repairs or replacements will be carried out free of charge to ensure your vehicle is safe and roadworthy.

In other news, Volvo Car Australia has issued a recall for 47 vehicles across its S60, V60, XC60, and XC90 model lines, manufactured in 2020, due to a manufacturing defect that could lead to a loss of braking performance.

‘Due to a manufacturing defect, the brake pedal rod may not have been fastened to the specified torque and could detach. If this occurs, it can result in a reduction in braking performance and/or a loss of vehicle control,’ the carmaker said in its recall notice.
