Move over dogs! Looks like this Aussie bird’s riding shotgun from now on

An Aussie road trip took a hilarious turn when a driver spotted something bizarre perched in a passing ute.

It wasn’t a dog, a child, or a rogue hat—but something far more feathered.

The passenger was pink, proud, and loving the breeze.

While visiting a friend in Coffs Harbour, Tamworth local Arielle Dimech got more than she bargained for on a casual drive.

The 30-year-old was adjusting to the coastal scenery when her friend suddenly burst into laughter.

Peering out the window, Arielle saw something poking its head from a neighbouring vehicle—and couldn’t believe her eyes.

‘I was just saying how different it was to Tamworth, which is very rural. Then I saw it,’ Arielle shared.

‘Fair to say I’ve never seen a bird hanging out a window like that.’

Cruising down the road was a native galah, perched on the passenger-side door and seemingly enjoying every second of the ride.

Its soft pink feathers blew in the breeze as it looked out with contentment, like any chilled-out Aussie on a Sunday drive.

‘It was the best thing ever...it was so Australian,’ Arielle said.

Naturally, she reached for her phone to film the surreal moment, giggling along with her friend as the scene unfolded.

But beyond the humour, Arielle—who once trained as a vet nurse—also noticed a thoughtful detail.

‘You could see on the back [of the bird] it had this little random thing, it's a weighted safety pouch,’ she explained.

The pouch likely acted as a safety mechanism to ensure the bird stayed secure and unharmed during the ride.
‘It's a good reminder that some people do actually take care of their pets, and you can have a good adventure with your pet whilst keeping them safe,’ she added.

According to the RSPCA, more than one million Australian households now have a pet bird.

With more Aussies moving into apartments and urban areas, feathered friends are becoming increasingly popular companions.

And if this galah’s joyride is anything to go by, life as a pet bird in Australia is anything but boring.

If a galah riding shotgun made you do a double take, this next story might just top it.

It involves a group of campers, a long road trip, and a surprise passenger they didn’t realise was tagging along.

Here’s how one wild animal managed to sneak in for the ride—and the moment it all came to light.
