Meteorologists warn that HEAVY RAINFALL is set to drench parts of NSW, Queensland, and Victoria this weekend
Aussies who reside on the east coast should consider spending their weekends indoors as the Bureau of Meteorology warns that the country's east coast might be seeing massive drenching of rain this weekend.

Rain showers can be expected from Saturday afternoon through Sunday as a volatile weather system moves from Western Australia to the eastern states.

NSW and South West Queensland were forecasted to be hit the hardest, while arid parts of the country near the Simpson Desert could expect to be drenched with a month's worth of rainfall.

Areas around Young, Dubbo, and Moree are most likely to be affected by severe weather conditions, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

Meteorologist Jackson Browne said that around 100mm to 150mm of rain could be expected in some areas of NSW on Sunday while other regions could expect half of that.

The meteorologist said: “It’s not as certain of an event as we’d like. There’s a bit of volatility and it’s really hard to pinpoint where the most rainfall will be.”

“The storms are bringing heavy rainfall. You can’t rule out the presence of large hail and damaging winds, but this is a rain-bearing event.”

Additionally, Mr Browne said that although it is difficult to predict which catchment areas will be hit the hardest, the team forecasted that NSW's overflowing river systems might experience more rain.

Mr Browne said: “It’s not welcome. This rain’s not absolutely high level, but there are sensitivities around lots of the catchments in NSW.”

“I’m sure there are a lot of people watching very closely including those in agriculture and emergency services.”

The Bureau of Meteorology also encouraged residents to keep an eye on its website for updates as they move into flood watches later on Friday.

The Bureau also reported that a large body of water was moving down the Lachlan River system in NSW's central west.

This comes after 1800 residents were told to evacuate their homes in Forbes due to flooding hazards earlier this week.

Mr Browne said: “It’s moving very slowly. The million-dollar question is: Will this coming rainfall cause rises? We sort of have to wait to see where the river rises to occur.”

“It’s been quite a wet winter with lots of river systems now in minor to moderate flooding. The Lachlan River catchment is at a major (flooding level).”

Sydneysiders may be seeing heavy rainfalls on Sunday, with forecasters expecting a “fairly good whack” of between 50mm and 100mm of rain.

The Bureau of Meteorology also warned Victorians that some rainfall around the northern parts of the alps, as well as over eastern Gippsland could be expected.

Additionally, Eastern and southeastern Queensland are likely to see heavier rainfall on Sunday and Monday, while areas north of Townsville and Mackay are set for a heatwave.

Although NSW would be drenched in rain for most of the weekend, the weather condition would be expected to ease from Sunday, before a second stormy weather system moves in rapidly from the west.

Meteorologists warned that the second system might be bringing even heavier rainfall across NSW next Wednesday.
