Melbourne man takes the internet by storm after paying for strangers’ groceries – “There’s still hope for this planet!”

There’s no shortage of disheartening news on the internet but every once in a while, it’s nice to be reminded that there are plenty of good-natured souls out there, willing to go out of their way to lend a helping hand.

Among those is Rustam Raziev – a man from Melbourne who loves making people’s day, one act of kindness at a time.

The social media star regularly approaches strangers and pays for their entire trolley or basket of food.

Previously, Raziev shared footage of himself paying for a woman’s grocery in Coles and he quickly stole the attention and hearts of thousands.

A similar clip showing his selfless act of generosity went viral once more, clocking up a whopping 149k likes.

In a few instances, he pretends to drop cash accidentally before revealing to the shoppers that they can keep it. In other videos, he quickly taps his card on the payment machine and walks away.

But his kindness isn’t limited to merely grocery shopping. More recently, Raziev has been paying for strangers’ meals as well.

In one TikTok video, he approached a woman and tapped his card to pay for the meal she ordered. The woman seemed puzzled at first, asking: “You – Sorry, what was that? That was mine.”

“Oh, was it?” he responded, acting like it was a silly mistake. “No, I paid for your meal. That’s fine.”

“Omg, that’s so sweet of you. Can I – I don’t know… Can I buy you something?” The woman gushed.

“It’s all good, it’s from my heart.” he added.

The video immediately garnered over a million views, with thousands of users in the comments expressing how much they loved seeing the reactions of the strangers.

“I love how she offered to buy you something.” one person said.

“You are a respectable person!” another praised.

“I LOVE THESE VIDEOS. Makes my heart so happy to see.” commented a third.

“There’s still hope for this planet!” added one more.

In an interview, Raziev revealed the heart-warming reason behind the phenomenal gestures, explaining: “I think it stems back to my childhood because I had times when my family struggled, we didn’t really have money for food,” Raziev said.

“I lived in a little tiny studio apartment with my dad, my mum, and my sister. I was quite embarrassed to bring my friends over.”

“I promised myself that one day when I had enough money to pay for other peoples’ groceries, I would.”

Raziev shared that he received ‘lots of different reactions’ to his generosity, not all of which are positive.

“Some people are quite shocked, some people are very grateful, some people cry.”

“Sometimes you get negative reactions as well, but 80 to 90 per cent of people are pretty happy with me paying for their groceries.”

He said there was no particular type of person who he selects, simply choosing to go off a “feeling”.

“If I feel that particular person needs my help then I will just go and pay.”

It is a very nice thing to do for sure. But why arrange for someone else to video the act and then post it for the world? This is happening a lot these days. It's a bit sad that people feel the need to broadcast everything they do. Shouldn't the act itself be enough? The two people involved know what happened and that's all that's important really.
