When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex officially resigned from their formal positions, the Queen instructed them to stop using the word "royal" in their titles.
After complaining publicly that neither the Queen nor the Government owned the word globally, the California-based couple grudgingly renamed their charitable organisation from Sussex Royal to the MWX Foundation.
The new title incorporated their surnames, Markle and Windsor, with the X believed to stand for Sussex.
About a year ago, they authorised a voluntary liquidator to dissolve the charity, effectively severing another connection with the United Kingdom.

According to documents, MWX Foundation has now repaid its obligation to an anonymous nonprofit.
A claim for $325,000 AUD had been received from a creditor about a grant owing to a "not-for-profit enterprise". Last year, a total of $205,000 AUD was paid off, and the pair said that all of their remaining obligations would be paid off within a year.
According to the report, the remaining $120,000 AUD was paid afterwards.
The late payment resulted in a $42,000 AUD surcharge because "time costs surpassed the forecast."
The document also said that Harbottle & Lewis will receive $33,500 AUD for legal counsel.
In 2020, the Sussexes established a new charitable organisation called Archewell, whose name is derived from the Greek arche, which signifies the beginning of a movement, and inspired the naming of their three-year-old son, Archie.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex refuse to speak with the mainstream media regarding the latest reports.
Following the cancellation of her animated series Pearl by Netflix earlier this month, the Duchess of Sussex is currently searching for a new home for the show on another television network.
The Sun was told by its sources that Meghan and her staff at the production firm are looking into the concept to determine where else it could potentially find a home.
They plan to present the idea for the series to a number of different television networks and streaming services, such as Apple and Amazon.
